Horrible seller. Be prepared for long wait times; incorrect stock details; no responses to emails; cancelled orders accusing you of failing security verification/incomplete payments; refunds with no explanations; etc. You could get your phone in 4 days, 4 weeks, or not hear from them for 4 months. That's the Toby Russian Roulette you're signing up to.

Having said that, great price for a decent mid-range phone.

      This.
And if any warranty issues, $70 for them to take it back to tell you the phone is fine. So use PayPal.

      • +2

PayPal? What product warranty do they provide? I bought a phone and paid by it and then after three months the screen failed - no dropping. The overseas vendor got me to get a written quote from a local repairer ($210) and scan it to them. The overseas vendor only offered a voucher for $50 (which were as useless as a chocolate teapot when I found they could only be applied to items on full price, then expired after 12 months). They argued that they would have lost money on the deal. I appealed to PayPal and they blankly told me it wasn't an eBay purchase, so I had to refer to the seller for recompense.

        • Chocolate teapot - Nice!

Don't diss the chocolate though. I'm still craving for Lindt.

Sorry to hear about the poor phone quality mate

        • Paypal are crap. I once received a parcel with some plastic in it instead of the harddrive I ordered. Paypal said because the package I ordered had been delivered, I needed to return it to get a refund. The addressed provided by the seller didn't exist (they put a made up state) and paypal didn't care, I had to return it via registered mail and send them the tracking number so they could confirm when it arrives (which it couldn't because it was a non-existent address).

This was an ebay purchase too, it looked a little dodgy but I figured I was covered by Paypal. Turns out I wasn't.

@freefall101: ngl, i'd legit adress it to my neighbor and see if it worked

        • PayPal gave me a refund when I provided evidence of the warranty issue, thatTD denied.

      • You just described every warranty process.

Oh, we can't see any problem, sorry, you owe us $125 for no fault fee and $30 delivery.

I thought Tobydeals was an Ozbargain favorite?

      • yeah same, i'm confused now - the only time i used them it went fine

    • +2

Agree with this, tried to purchase a phone with them back in January. Was in stock at the time but waited 2 weeks with no update. After 2 weeks, contacted customer support who told me the phone was out of stock and would take another month for the next shipment to arrive. Ended up cancelling the order.

I've read tons of people having problems with Toby deals but I've bought a Redmi 7, Mi 9 and Mi 9T Pro from them without any issue or long wait times. Each phone was delivered within two weeks.

      • +1

Yeah I bought a Nokia 8 from these guys a while back (March 2019) and it arrived ok.

    • I went through everything you have just said. Not worth it!!

    • Thanks for the warning

Tobydeals is pretty much a drop shipper from china, but honestly they have great prices because they don't ask for gst.

Bought my xiaomi 9T from them, did take about a month but arrived eventually….

  • +2

I just bought a Xiaomi note 8 pro from Tecobuy got it in 6 days.

    • How is the Note 8 pro?
fair bit of difference between the 9s and the 8pro

      • Just received my 8pro, decent built, got NFC, big battery.

  • Avoid this shop.

  • +3

    No NFC

    • +4

This phone could cost $100 more and have NFC and it'd be an instant buy for me. Great camera, headphone jack, great battery, it's everything I want.

Will probably keep hunting for a 9T around $400 again instead. Worse battery but at least it has NFC.

    • Interesting. Didn't know that. Didn't expect them to go "backwards" (sort of) from the Redmi Note 8 Pro to the Redmi Note 9S.

I got my Mi 9T Pro from TobyDeals. This was back in January and I was very unsure of buying from them since there are lots of complaints about bad shipping and faulty phones coming from them.

It came in like 4 days. I expected more time but it was super fast and no issues with my phone so far. It did come from Hong Kong through them so I expected that too, but all in all I had no problems with them so far.

With the pandemic however, I don't trust them as much as I did earlier. This is the same with Gearbest in which I buy a lot of stuff from, but the pandemic has caused them a lot of delayed shipping issues.

I think most of these sellers are having a troubling time getting things from China so I had to go to Amazon and EBay to buy things I need these days.

For anyone that is trying to get this phone through TobyDeals, just know that it's 50/50, especially during this time, that you'll actually get this phone in time. Good price but i'd wait to buy a phone towards the end of this year or buy it locally though local sites if I were you.

Bought two 9t's on separate occasions from these guys. Emailed them first to confirm it was in stock. They arrived in about a week and haven't had any issues so far. YMMV

  • +2

Ordered many times from them without issue. Don't understand what people expect from a gray reseller. May have to wait for stock to reach them before it actually leaves China.

  • +1

Ordered a Redmi Note 8T from them on Easter Sunday, didn't ship or respond for about 10 days. Then all of a sudden I get a notification they shipped Tuesday and it's already landed in Brisbane today. Didn't pay for the extra shipping speed this is just the default. So as above, seems like they're fast when they actually ship something but completely useless if you want any form of service.

  • +1

Last time I used these guys, the correspondence and delivery times (February 2020) were as good as they needed to be.

    Of course, YMMV.

    Not sure what benefit PayPal provide. Seem like classic USA ticket clippers/parasites to me;

TobyDeals have a good online presence, which works well.

I purchased the Xiaomi MI 9t pro back in September 2019.

A total of 9 days from placing order to receiving phone.

Shipping in Australia was via toll. Item was very well packed with bubble wrap no damage could ever occur.

Shipping details on tobydealsau always said in process until it hit Australia and then was provided tracking details via toll.

  • Shame about the lack of NFC, need it for Google pay and myki. I was looking at downgrading when my contract is up and need to return this Samsung note 9 to optus but I just can't seem to find the right mid-ranger.

    • when my contract is up and need to return this Samsung note 9 to optus

Huh? How come you need to return your phone at the end of your contract? Work phone?

      • Work phone on lease.

        • Ahh right ok makes sense..! I was thinking, the phone should be yours! It's a contract that you're paying for! But clearly not in this case haha.

          • +1

@illumination: I pay the bill then got reimbursed. Was made redundant last week, hence the downgrade once the lease is over.

            • @AEKaBeer: Sorry to hear mate. Hope you're holding up ok!

              • @illumination: Thanks, yeh I'm sure it will all work out. Just looking to reduce some costs here and there.

  • +1

Tobydeals is hit and miss first phone ordered arrived in 9 days , second phone exactly same ordered a week later, still was waiting 4 weeks later constantly lying about stock fake shipping numbers refused refund ended up getting money back through PayPal.

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS

    TECOBUY is the same company

  • +1

Tecobuy is cheaper. Is it really the same company?
    https://www.tecobuy.com/en_AU/xiaomi-redmi-note-9s-6gb-128gb…

    • +1

Yes same company. It's more expensive to buy at Tecobuy, they add $15 shipping at checkout.

  • Lots of bad rep for the store but they delivered a Redmi Note 8 Pro in less than 2 weeks for me (that one has NFC).

    Maybe I got lucky.

    • My 1st was the same second was delay after delay n lie after lie..

  • +1

The lack of NFC on the Note 9S killed it, their worldwide launch on Aliexpress was a failure, the Redmi Note 8 PRO its successor is more expensive, im guessing itll be dumped cheap or version 2 with NFC will be released im pretty sure The max version has NFC but no global versions yet

    • the Redmi Note 8 PRO its successor is more expensive

The Redmi Note 8 Pro would surely be considered the predecessor of this phone..?

      • +1

        Oops correct typo

  • Looking for phone like this but with nfc and same price range lol. Probably a dream.

    • +2

Probably the Redmi Note 8T or Redmi Note 8 Pro. But a natural/understandable response would be, "but that's the previous version!" and you're not wrong. But keep in mind it was only released in Sep 2019 (Redmi Note 8 Pro) and Nov 2019 (Redmi Note 8T), whilst this Redmi Note 9S came out earlier this month (Apr 2020).

      Redmis come out pretty quickly..

For context, the Redmi Note 7 was released in Jan 2019.

If it makes a difference, I have the Redmi Note 8 Pro, even though I'm just a random internet stranger to you LOL

      • Thanks. Will check it out.

  • The Redmi Note 8T is another even cheaper option that has NFC and global bands, but unfortunately doesn't have LED notifications.

  • Don't want to fund CCP anymore
I know I can't avoid Made in China but I will do what I can.

  • Too bulky & heavy
    No NFC
    No B28

    • Apparently there are three separate versions - 9s, 9s international and, 9s global - I'm pretty sure that only the 9s global has primary Australia Band 28(700) open

  • Stop supporting CCP, buy things made elsewhere

    • Yeah after the virus fiasco I won't be buying anything made over there.
