NF18ACV and TP-Link Archer D9

Hello,

Hoping the OzBargain community can assist with advice.

I have the NF18ACV which came with my NBN package. I also have an old TP-Link Archer D9 which I previously used with my ADSL2+ connection.

Before I set them both up, do you know if there is (likely) a performance upgrade in using the NF18ACV as a modem and the Archer D9 as a router? I am currently using the NF18ACV as a modem/router.

Thanks!

  • Hmmm, the D9 is a very capable WiFI access point. What is your range and speed of the Wifi now using just the NF18ACV?

    • Sorry it took a while, I did some speed tests using the 5Ghz band and:

About 3m from the router with clear line I get 23.4Mbps download and 13ms ping.

In my backyard at the fence line (probably 9m away with walls) I get 4.6 Mbps download and 14ms ping.

      • That's not the best in WiFi speeds, or range. Are you only on a 25mbps plan?

I had a Archer C9 which I used as just a WiFi access point, and I was getting really good range. I remember posting up the speeds once here, I'll see if I can find it.

      • This was my comment about the range of my C9.

"I have one of these as a Wi-Fi access point, and it has good range. I can get decent speeds at 30m range, through 4 internal walls, 1 brick wall, with 4m decline, in the colorbond shed."

        • Yes, on a 25/5 plan. That sounds really good - I'll have a go at setting up the d9 and see if I get any improvements.

          Thanks for sharing your experience.
