DHgate Seller Not Sending Our Complete Order, Is this Scam?

Hello Everyone

Thank you for time. My friend advised me to ask people from Ozbargain forum hence we are posting here. We wanted to get your opinion on what we can/should do regarding the below issue we are facing with different sellers on DHGate

We placed 3 orders on DHgate for Face Masks from different sellers in the month of March and April. (We work at a Medical Centre)

Order 1 via Epacket : 50 lots with each lot containing 50 pieces , Total 2500 Pieces

Order 2 via DHL: 100 lots with each lot containing 50 pieces, Total 5000 pieces

Order 3 via DHL: 5000 pieces

Three days after placing our Second order we messaged the seller to confirm the tracking # to which the seller replied with the photo of the DHL Waybill and 2 boxes of masks. Thinking the seller might have got it wrong we messaged them to confirm the quantity we ordered and the seller replied advising that we have only ordered 100 pieces and he’s only going to send the 100 pieces (2 box) not 100 boxes as we ordered. We messaged him again and again and showed the order details and what we had ordered and paid for, but he kept telling us we are wrong, and he is only going to send 2 boxes.

Thinking we have been scammed we messaged the First order seller also to confirm our order who advised the same as the first seller that we never ordered 50 boxes and only ordered 50 pieces and they will not send us anymore. Again, we messaged this seller and send copy of the order detail and the quantity we purchased but no response.

We have tried to get in touch with DHGATE customer service, their chat support , FB, Youtube but they don`t seem to understand as well and keep repeating that we need to sort it out with the seller. Now the sellers have changed their listings however we have already taken a screenshot of our order which we have attached.

We have contacted our bank last week as we paid via cc and applied for a charge-back. The bank has advised not to accept the delivery of goods so they can put it as non-delivery instead of item not as described as its easier for them to defend this, however the order 2 package is awaiting collection at the Post Office at our Business PO Box.
DHGate has now send us an email saying they have got a delivered confirmation from DHL and will release the payment to seller after 5 days, if they do so then how will the bank be able to do a charge-back?

We would like to ask if anyone has faced a situation like this with DHgate and what can we do so we can get our correct order or our money back we are not interested in buying the item anymore as we do not trust this website anymore.

We are really stressed as work has already reimbursed us the cost of buying the Masks and are awaiting their delivery

Thank you in advance for your replies. Happy to answer any questions if required.

  • I think the price you were expecting is a bit crazy. 2c per mask?

We only bought and paid for what was advertised. Thats what we paid for, cheap price or not thats got nothing to do with our order.

You were the one who asked if this is a scam then you think a realistic price isn't a factor.

You are probably getting a completely ineffective piece of paper with a string. Why would you buy medical equipment from dhgate.

    Lost in translation.

Looks like what we would call a "price error". What are your options? Sounds like chargeback will be your only option if you don't want them at the price you've paid for them.

    • Thats what we have applied for, however the bank is saying dont accept the delivery of the goods, DH gate on the other hand is saying that the payment will be released to the seller as they got the delivery confirmation. So we are just confused what to do

      • +1

As noted … chargeback. DHGate has said go jump. The seller has said go jump. The bank might be able to help. There are no other parties to the deal.

  • Yeah don’t buy face masks on aliexpress dhgate etc. At that price you must have known they would not be effective

    • Lesson learnt. We had to buy them as in March we had very small quantity left to service 3 medical centers and our normal supplier did not have them in stock until May.

  • Just take the stupid masks and don't buy from dhgate. They are probably the worst quality around and totally not suitable for your medical centre.

  • The price for those mask around jan/feb/march was around $100 for a box of 50.

From what ive herd those same mask have now dropped to around high $20s a box of 50 in hong kong.

The mistake is better than paying 4k at rippoff prices.

Seems like a misreading to me. All the listings I can find are per piece with minimum purchase quantities. So 1 lot is 50 pieces @ 1.70 each.

    • Yes we ordered per lot where every lot had 50 pieces. Below is a snippet of the listing/ad we purchased from

If you know the real pricing for masks then you would know it is around 20-30c minimum each during non outbreak times.

I used to use some when doing woodwork. I am sure for medical grade surgical masks it costs even more.

    • Call us naive in buying from overseas website but we thought that because its coming from China thats why it is so cheap and we didnt want to use these for long. Just wanted something as urgent to fill the gap in which our supplier could not provide with the masks until at least May.

Even if the 5000 masks were free, shipping 5000 masks by DHL will cost you more than what you have paid for the entire order.
