Jetstar Credit Vs Refund Decision, Deadline 30 April 2020

Hi guys, I booked flights to NZ to visit relatives in July 2020 before this whole covid situation. I paid with Qantas FF points. Received an email from Jetstar earlier in the month offering a credit voucher if I wanted. I'm personally keen to drop all travel plans till next year for financial reasons. Should I accept the credit voucher now or wait for Jetstar to cancel their July flights before asking for a refund (back to my QFF points presumably)?

I wouldn’t be that sure that they are going to cancel their flights in July…in two more months I think they’re gonna start flying again

cost of travel is likely to rise when restrictions ease/allow, so you may end up having to fork out even more in the future if you take the credit voucher

    • Why? I thought it would be cheap with low oil prices.

Jetstar cancelled my flights early April, and Jetstar voucher was the only option. Even if they cancel your flight in July, I think they will still just issue a Jetstar Voucher.

Ignore what Jetstar says if you booked the flight using your Qantas frequent flyer points.
Make any changes or cancellations through your Qantas frequent flyer account.

This is what the Qantas COVID19 page states…

    "Qantas Classic Flight Reward bookings
If you're due to travel on a Classic Flight Reward booking (using Qantas Points) before 31 July 2020 and wish to change your plans, you can cancel your booking and any cancellation fees will be waived. The total Qantas Points used and any taxes, fees and carrier charges paid will be refunded."

    • I just tried this by calling Qantas FF, but they said because I book through Jetstar I have to get my refund through Jetstar and they can't help. No success there!

      • How did you book on the Jetstar website using Qantas frequent flyer points to pay?
I didnt know you could do that.
I thought if you pay with points, you could only book through the Qantas frequent flyer website and select flights that can be operated by Qantas, Jetstar or a star alliance airline.

        • I thought the same. I had a tassie trip booked with points through qantas but operated by jetstar and i just called qantas and they did a full refund.

what do you mean? jetstar offers qantas ff points as a payment method on any flight…

  • I think you have 12 months to use the credit voucher and bookings open 12 months in advanced so plenty of time!
