Just Want Bath Towels That Dry and Dont Shed - Any Recommendations?

Hi - anyone got a good value brand they can recommend? I dont care about color - just want them to dry rather than move the water around, and not leave little fibres everywhere. Im not hung up on them being Canningvale or Sheridan - I hear those days are over! Thanks for any ideas… and best of health to anyone who reads this.

Well as soon as you wash with fabric softener it reduces their ability to soak up water. So don't use that shit, ever.

As for towels, the ones at H&M are pretty good but I've never really had ones that shed anything because I don't get the fluffy ones.

    • Thanks! Didnt even know H&M did towels

Avoid softener , use cold cycle if possible and do not over-dry in the dryer = fluffy, absorbent towels.

  • Target Supima Cotton Bath Towel for $20.

    • A couple of the reviews mentioned that the towels shed some fluff. One review said that they don't. I guess the OP could experiment with one. Some time back, a couple of ozbargainers mentioned some cheapo cotton towels didn't shed fluff, but I can't remember what brand or the retailer. While I've never bought one myself, there's the possibility of cotton waffle weave towels, similar to the microfiber ones normally used for drying cars.

Even though the OP mentioned value for money, these cotton/linen blend waffle weave towels could be considered for those with deep pockets.

  • Don't mind the Kmart premium ones. I find most towels have that fluff at the start but after a few washes it stops. The Sheridan fluffy range isnt bad either, I picked them up around boxing day last year for 70% off or something ridiculous.

I find the target grandeur range to be really good, especially for $12. Had them a few years and they’re still quite soft. I have only ever used normal detergent with them and I never put in the full cap of detergent, maybe only half for a full towel load. (If you use too much, it sometimes doesn’t come out properly in the rinse and makes them go stiff)

  • A good life hack is to use TWO towels.

Ideally you want to run your hands on your body to get the excess warm water off first.
The first towel is your "wet towel" and this removes most of the remaining water, but leaves you quite damp.
The second towel is your "moist towel" and this makes you fully dry.

But wait a second Kangal, isn't that double the laundry?
Nope, since the towels share the workload they last twice as long. So instead of 1-2 showers, both towels can do 2-4 shower duties. And since the duty is shared, you get better performance out of the towels, you can actually rely on cheap towels and do not have to buy any expensive ones. Combing that technique with a heated towel rack can also make it feel good and help dry the damp towels faster.

1-2 showers per towel? Am I a grot for going 5-7 showers or so per towel-change?

      • +2

No just some people don't know how to hang their towels to dry properly or don't wash themselves enough so the towels end up grotty.

What the hell does that make me? I wash mine every couple of weeks.

Nope, these single-users are just super wasteful.

You're clean when you're using your towel! It's just getting (mostly) water on it, and then you hang it to dry again.

I keep using mine until it starts to smell…

    • How many times can you reuse either towel before it needs washing and drying?

    • An even better one is to use one towel then blow dry your body with a hair dryer.

@AustriaBargain: Ha! I noticed that as well. Kinda annoying. They also don't seem to have much of a sales force in Australia.

I noticed a slightly cheaper alternative here but I don't think it looks as nice.

Those two body dryers seem like decent products if you can afford them. I wonder if any tanning salons use them in Australia.

            • @kahn: I'm still thinking of buying a towel warmer, the basket tube thing you put your towel in while you shower.

    • We do similar but use small microfibre gym towels the wet one goes into the wash and the dry one becomes the wet one next shower.

  • I always get some super plush 100% cotton fluffy towel made in India ones from spotlight. End up buying too many when on special. Spotlight have some really good quality towels.
Never had a shedding problem…Not even sure what that would look like..

  • Wash your towels a bunch of times before using them (one wash with detergent, then just water). Helps with absorbancy.

I don't know what you've heard about Sheridan, but mine are very absorbent, dry quickly, and don't shed. And they were only like $20 from a Sheridan outlet centre.
