Item Not as Described

Hey Guys,

I recently purchased a mobile phone from an online seller based in Australia (WIth ABN etc). The phone was advertised as having the ability to use 2 sim cards in it, however, after purchasing the phone I've done researh and have found the phone actually only supports 1 sim card & 1 micro sd card, but not 2 sim cards to be used.

The item is in transit and will likely be delivered Monday to Tuesday. I purchased the phone with a key requirement being that it could support 2 sim cards & as I understand as the item is not as described I should be entitled to a full refund on it under Australian Consumer law. I have no intention to unpackage the item after discovering that the sellers add was incorrect and isn't suitable for my requirements.

The terms on the sellers adds states no refunds unless the item is faulty..

Based on what I described above Is there anything I should be concerned about when approaching the seller? I made the purchase by credit card & the seller is well known on here. I'd rather not say who just yet..

  • If you have a copy of their ad stating that the phone has dual sim capacity, then you should be good. If not … then YMMV!

    • Yeah.. I grabbed a copy of the add via screen capture.. And also downloaded the page with chrome. Not really sure what else I can grab..

Could it be an overseas model that is dual sim? eg Samsung S9 dual sim available overseas but not officially in AU

Which phone? It might have an eSIM and a physcial SIM thus being dual-sim.

What platform did you purchase from? If it's eBay, simple to raise a 'not as described' returns case regardless of what they say.

I didn't realise it's that difficult to ask the seller, then ask for advice if they take issue with the request.

Are we really at that stage now where we just worry about shit and pre-empt bad service? Cmon…

Atleast tell us the phone and model number

he Phone is the Oppo Reno 5G. It seems well known that it only supports 1 Sim card. Add clearly states it supports dual sim.

The Purchase was made through Kogan & they are already insisting it supports dual sim. Here is the advert.. Refer the specifications:

      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/oppo-reno-5g-256gb-jet-black-au…

Specifications on Kogan Advert state the following:

      Inputs
Card Slot SIM 1 + SIM 2 or microSD (Up to 256GB)

      • You might be right even though on Kogan it states that it’s the AU/NZ model with dual sim support but once you check on the offical AU Oppo site the specifications are: SIM Card Type: Nano + Micro SD, Single Card + SD Card

Let’s see what other’s will say

  • Probably ask the seller, as someone above said some phones do allow dual sim, but typically on intl phones, usually you use the normal sim card, and the microSD slot doubles as the second sim, so you can only have one or the other (the sim goes perpendicular to the SD slot), I had to buy my S7 intl just for that functionality.

But again I'd ask the seller, they might tell you its fine, or they'll tell you not to accept the delivery and the post will have to bring it back (I think free?) and they refund you when it returns, might add some risk though.

  • Just wait till u get the phone

    How to Approach Seller

You are over thinking this and creating issues where none may exist.

    How about an email??

    Dear Seller,

Could you confirm that the (insert brand and model here) phone that I purchased from you supports 2 sims as advertised.

    Regards

    • Unforunately thus far its not going well.. They already replied today insisting it does have dual sim.. It is the Oppo Reno 5G

      • Looks to me to be a hybrid dual sim phone.

So yes, it's a dual sim phone, but, it has the space for either 2 sim cards OR 1 sim card and 1 SD card.

        Very nice phone though.

        • Why do you assume that?

          https://oppo-au.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5724/~/…

There isn't a single Reno 5g phone out there that is dual sim.. Above is straight from the manufacturer

          • @[Deactivated]: https://www.gsmarena.com/oppo_reno_5g-9676.php

            BODY Dimensions 162 x 77.2 x 9.3 mm (6.38 x 3.04 x 0.37 in)

Build Glass front (Gorilla Glass 6), glass back (Gorilla Glass 5), aluminum frame
SIM Hybrid Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by)

What’s a hybrid dual SIM slot?

            https://www.dignited.com/34354/whats-a-hybrid-dual-sim-slot/

            • @Hithere: gsmarena have been wrong many times when I look at specs there… Anyway, time will tell.. Once the parcel comes it will need to have 2 x IMEI on the box itself. Note, the above URL i posted is also from the manufacturers own website for Australia.. And this is the Australian version of said phone that Kogan is selling. they clearly note on the Kogan add.. Add to the fact there simply is not a Reno 5G that is dual sim anywhere..

Some phones use a shared slot so it can take 2 sims or a sim and a micro sd card.

  • +1

How did you buy it. Online store, eBay, other?

  • FIRST CHECK THE PHONE!
It might be a model that supports 2 SIM cards
As another poster suggested the SD card slot might be a shared 2nd SIM slot - very common!

I have seen this with Samsung S7 which actually has 3 models
The S7 regular or flat screen
    The S7 edge
The S7 dual SIM which is a real rarity

    So look before you leap.

    But dont open the box!

Read what is says on the outside
Check the exact mdel number on GSMrena.com

If its not contact the seller ASAP
You have very right to return if goods are NOT as described.
I repeat - DO NOT OPEN THE BOX !

Could OP place a link to the listing so we can offer better advice

  • The box will have two imei numbers listed if it’s dual sim

    • Cheers… I will be checking that first

    • Just as assumed the box only has the 1xIMEI on it.. Now to battle Kogan support who are simply not replying to anything..

It may end up going to my bank as a chargeback.. Not sure if Kogan support is generally useless or if they are just swamped due to online orders going through the roof because of COVID-19.

      • Looks like you were right to worry then, hopefully you can get it sorted out then either with Kogan or a chargeback.

  • This is too obvious, that v50 lg saga from jbhifi.

  • You do know how to contact seller to ask the question?

    • Already have.. And as predicted.. The seller (Kogan) have insisted that it is indeed Dual sim, yet the Box itself only has 1xIMEI on the outside of the box. Hence the reason to start this thread as I already had a bad feeling it wasn't going to go smooth.

      • Do you have the reply as an email. Then if you open it and it isn't then you have recoarse

  • What is the phone OP?
And where is it coming from?
Is it coming from within Oz? or OS?
