Help Getting Files Downloaded Using an iPhone onto a Computer

Hi guys,

I have a problem where I had downloaded a heap of docs (4GB worth) using the Web browser on my iPhone.

The files appear in the 'files' app only under the 'downloads' folder. For some reason I can't find the files using iTunes because they don't appear under any app at all. The 'files' app doesn't even appear on iTunes!

I could email them to myself but I was hoping someone knows of a better way.

Thank you.

Don't have an iPhone, this is the reason why I don't use it. Simple things are a pain

But have you tried this link?
    https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/iphone/iphf2d851b9/ios

    • Hi, yeah. Usually that's how it's done. Files appear under an app sandbox. However for some reason the iPhone won't share it's files that have been downloaded using the native Web browser?

Sorry man. I had issues transferring my own movies into my wifes old iPhone. Had to convert to mp4 before being able to sync. That took a while to figure out.

I can't believe transferring just some documents is this confusing.

If you do find the way, can you update this post for someone else's reference? Maybe Apple will include it in their manual lol

          Sure thing.

What you have to do is use any app which allows iCloud local file import.

Import file or files (one at a time. Or compress using files app into 1 file) using the app.

Use iTunes to copy file over normally in that app directory which you used to import.

          • if you use mac. Airdrop is easiest method.

yep. that's iphone. you can't do simple things out of the box.
you either have to jailbreak or use third party app

Have you had a look at ifunbox? That was what I used previously. That was many many years ago though

    • I will have a try, thank you

  • Forget itunes, just plug your phone into your computer using usb and it should appear as a usb drive. Use your file explorer on your computer.

    • iPhone is not that easy, your method only works for Android phones.

Mass Storage Device mode works for me, on iPhone, no jailbreak. Might need Windows 10.

        • What iPhone model and which iOS version?

There's indeed a File Explorer for the task.

Use this App - https://apps.apple.com/au/app/file-hub-by-imoreapps/id730843… - I have the pro version of it but the free version will also work.

    Once downloaded follow these instructions:

    • Tap the plus (bottom middle)
    • Tap "From iCloud Drive"
    • Browse
    • < Locations (back button)
    • Tap "On My iPhone"
    • Tap "Downloads"
    • Tap the file you want to import
    • Repeat

To download the files on your PC:

    • On the app home screen tap the 3 connected dots (bottom right)
    • Wi-Fi Transfer

    On your PC:

    • In your web browser enter the IP address shown on your phone e.g. 192.168.0.xxx:8080 - yours may be different (the :8080 is important)
    • Select the files you want to download (checkboxes)
    • Click "Download selected files"
    • Pick your preference (Single Zip or individual files)

    Go to https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/
    Select Downloads folder
    Download whatever files you want

    Job done

this is funny.. used to have to put up with my wife complaining about this and other apple device BS all the time.. finally got her to move to android. simple thing like copying a file to and from your phone should not be hard or require you to download special apps.. this ability has been on android and windows phones since the beginning. apple ecosystem sucks IMO

  • It just works…

Do you have a Dropbox account? Install on both phone & PC.
You should then be able to move them on the phone into your Dropbox folder, and they will appear in the Dropbox folder on your PC.

    I second hatchbackracehorse's answer.

If you prefer not to use the internet and have a Mac, I've found AirDrop to be super easy and fast. Got to Files > Downloads then tap Select. Tap and check all files, or if you want all files then tap Select all on the top right. Lastly, tap the hare button on the bottom left and tap AirDrop (if your Mac is nearby it should automatically pop up as a shortcut above). If you're logged in to iCloud on your Mac then it'll transfer all the files automatically to your Downloads folder in Finder, otherwise, click Accept. Here's Apple's documentation on AirDrop: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT203106

I prefer AirDrop to share files and links between iPads, iPhones and Macs as it's quick (if you're within social distancing, er…. distances) and photos and videos are (usually) shared at their full quality.

  • Thank you everyone. I have resolved my problem and documented the method I used for future reference
