Mirabella Genio Colour Changing Wi-Fi Smart LED Light Strip 3x 3m $89.99 @ Costco (Membership Required)

100

Found this at Costco Marsden park NSW last night - 3 x 3m Mirabella Genio smart led strip RGBW with power adapter and switch, works with Alexa and Google home.
Seems to be standard price at Costco, but after researching the market looks to be a very good deal for locally sourced smart strips with power adapter @$30 for 3m. The quality also seems nice and it looks quiet similar to the lifx strips. I went around a few stores and they all had cheap 5M strips without power supply at a similar price.
They can probably be got for a cheaper price from overseas but considering the current situation, we might be waiting too long.
Let me know what you guys think. Happy for it to be moved to forums if we think it belongs there.
Hope this helps some of us.
Not sure if it’s nationwide and can’t find it on the Costco website either. Hence just posting my reciept. Cheers!

At the Northlakes store in QLD too, would assume nationwide.

    • Also available in VIC

  • What do people use these LED strip for? They look like a gimmick

    • Put them in recessed ceiling cornice or behind the TV shining on the wall

    • I've got mine behind my desk as ambient lighting. Also, planning on putting a set under my kitchen cabinets for work lighting.

    • I’m not using this particular product but the philips one which I pair with the motion detector that turns it on so that my kids have a lit path to the bathroom at night.

      • Does the Philips one require a power point also? I think that's the kicker for my usage - will need a spare power point within distance

      • On the topic of motion sensor - I am thinking to add one of these https://www.amazon.com.au/COODIO-Automatic-Infrared-Detector…

Is there a reason it will not work?
The only problem I see is that the power adapter is 12v 1A and this one says working voltage 5-24v but also says charging current 5A.

Can someone please comment and help?

        • Should be fine but as its up to 5A so 1A is fine. But it's pointless getting this if you're hooking it up with that sort of IR detector as it basically just cuts power when there's no motion (rendering the wifi aspect pointless). You can get a much cheaper strip for this usage.

          • @Darkscythe: Wow - Thanks Darkscythe! Didn’t think of that!
Will look for some cheap strip to use with the sensor. I have some lying around the house from a few years ago from the good old gearbest days 😝. Will need to find a cheap power source.

            • @Dealking: I usually salvage them from old routers, etc as they're usually 2.1mm jacks and 12V 2A units :)

    Heres the product:
    Front
    Back

  • Do they each require their own power supply or can these be daisy chained?

    • They each need their own power supply, which is included. The strips look sealed so I don’t think they can be joined/ linked. They are cutable though but you will of course lose the cut part.

      • If you're handy with a soldering iron or use waterproof connectors, you can join them but you'll probably hit the power limit of the power supply pretty quick. They'll only have a 12V 1A power supply so 3m is probably close to the limit.

sounds a bit overpriced for genio tho as that is $30 each

    • $39 per strip at Kmart/Big W.

  • Heads up on people buying these series, I believe they only work on the 2.4ghz bands and can be a pain to set up if you already have a mesh setup that does 2.4 and 5 on the same wireless ssid.

I have the Orbi and I had to resort to really non user friendly steps to set them up.

    • On there video it tells you to use 2.4ghz band.

  • Is this one any better than Yeelight Strip? Yeelight app is quite good, GAssistant/Alexa supported and i think a bit cheaper than this?

    • Yeelight strip is more expensive - it's better in some aspects, worse in others. Best part of Yeelight is LAN control for things like Home Assistant whereas these (and all Tuya devices) are via cloud-to-cloud conncetions. That said, my Yeelight strip was an original model with the power brick permanently connected so when it died, the whole unit was gone.

These can be easily flashed with tuya-convert to run Tasmota or ESPhome for direct integration with Home Assistant

  • Just bought at Auburn, would be interesting to compare it with Arlec one. They both are RGBW but have different LEDs. Plus, the Arlec model is IP65 rated although it's not really useful for me.
