Are hoverboards safe now?

Are hoverboards still catching fire and breaking limbs? Or have they improved in terms of safety?
Are there any brands I should be looking at? Or brands I should avoid?

All the ones that were going to catch fire now already have, so all the ones left are perfectly safe.

    • That doesn’t stop people losing control and falling off. Falling and hitting your head can be pretty devastating even from standing height.

I mean, you can't vaccinate against stupid or clumsy. If you don't have the ability or the willingness to learn, then anything can hurt you.

Drunks can't blame the gutter when they trip outside the pub.

No, drunk don't blame the gutter because the gutter can't pay money. Instead they go and blame the bar/bottleshop and try to sue them.

And all those stupid and clumsy people have fallen off and died so hoverboarding is totally safe now too.

  • Are they even legal in your state?

    and breaking limbs

    Probably same category as skateboards/rollerskates.

    • No probably in motor vehicle category

    • No idea. I was going to have the kids use them inside at home.
But it is tiled and granite bench tops so maybe not, I hadn’t really thought of the falling off part.

What could possibly go wrong, using powered toys inside?

OP’s next thread… “kids put roller toy/head/arm through wall. How to repair gyprock?”

@pegaxs: Haha no that won’t happen.

I already know how to fix that from previous incidents.

  • bad idea.

They are worse than unsafe now..
    …They are, "uncool"

    • Neighbours got one last week. Their 10yo daughter came off it and landed on the back of her skull and KO’d her for a few mins. Ambulance and a stay in hospital. Toy went in the bin that afternoon…

      • Omg ok. Sounds so dangerous.

I think I’ll stick to the razor crazy carts.

        • That is really dangerous. Putting electronic equipment in the bin, waiting for the garbage compactor to crush the battery.
          more hoverboards catching fire.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yep, that's what I told them. And then it just ends up as landfill if it doesnt burn the garbage truck to the ground before it gets there.

      • Should have volunteered to "dispose" of it for them and then sold it. Use the money to pay for bikies and eneloops.
