Selling Car. Lost Vehicle Registration Papers

Hi All,

I'm looking to sell my old vehicle but have recently lost my most recent NSW RMS registration renewal papers. I only possess an older copy of the registration renewal notice from 2017, would it be okay to use this instead as it has Both Part A (Notice of Disposal) and Part B (Registration transfer) on the back or will I have to visit an RMS to get issued a new notice?

Thanks

You can do the transfer online through Service NSW, no need for papers at all as far as I'm aware.

    • Wouldn't they still need to sign the papers prior to lodging it online?

      • No, as long as you have their details you just fill in the notice of disposal online. They're supposed to do it as well to pay the transfer etc.

Go to RMS and get a reprint.

Alternative is that you can do a notice of disposal though Service NSW website and you can give the new owner a receipt for payment that they can use to fill out the "transfer of registration" form or submit their transfer online once you have completed your notice of disposal.

  • I sold a trailer with an old rego slip. Filled it out for the buyer, submitted the notice of disposal online. Wasn’t my problem if the old slip wasn’t good enough for the buyer, but never heard from them.

I'd say remind me never to buy a trailer from you, but then given the above, I am sure you wouldnt remind me not to if I did 😀

Ha ha. I suspect the trailer was never re-registered.

Come to think of it, the same may have happened with a car I sold too.
