Suggestions For A Decent But Cheap 7 or 8 Inch Tablet

Hi, I am looking for a 7 or 8 tablet but want to keep the cost low but a reasonable unit.
Purpose is to keep it rather simple, no multitasking to avoid distractions.
Mostly for reading digital copies of books, articles etc.
I already have a Tab S4 (with keyboard cover) but I want to reduce my usage of this and would like a smaller unit to carry with me without too much hassle or bulk.

TIA.

If the main purpose is reading then why not buy a kindle?

    • Do you rate them?
Havent had much hands on experience with them.
The specs never seem that great for the price but they are well made?
I dont want a black and white thing

      • They are black and white. They are supposed to replicate paper.
I have a couple of old kindles. They were good when I got them, but tablets can do so much more.

        • Ah they have some colour ones that I looked into. Found a cheap one locally but then realised it was the gen without sd slot.
Tablet is preferred. I just dont know much personally about low end tablets. My experience so far has been unlucky

      • If you are going to read books for hours then get a kindle. If it is just for browsing and reading online then a tablet is fine. I have ipads (pro and normal), they are well built but are too shiny to do any serious reading. You need matte screen for that.

After tax and delivery about $130. I have had this tablet for months and I am very happy with it.

    • Thanks! I went with this one. I was looking at it a fair bit 2 weeks ago but got annoyed when the gst loaded and took it to $140. Got it for $128 so im happy enough. I found a clearance tablet that was down to $49 but I wanted to throw myself off a bridge and all i was doing was Kindle/pdfs

  • My goto has been 7" Lenovo tablets for $79-89 from Officeworks.

    • How do they hold up? Does that mean you have had a few?

They're cheap. Decent screen. Not much else to say. Have gifted many over the years to young family members.

        • Ah. I tried out a JVL 7 inch from Aus Post. Was a but worried the lady tried to deny me a refund at first. The thing can barely unlock without a jitter and the amount if times i had to restart my kindle app was horrid
