What Phone to Buy with Price Drop Protection?

Hi ozb,

I want to buy a phone which costs around $700 1 year from now.

I have price drop protection with my 28 degrees card so for all of you with crystal balls, here's your chance to do some gazing.

Requirements:

  • can be over $1k now if it can be reasonably expected to drop under $700 in a year or less
  • Has to be Aussie stock - online aussie stores are ok too
  • Android with Google apps (so huawei's latest phones are out)
  • 5g is not a must but I like to use my phones for 3 or 4 years so if I can get 5g within the price range that would be great.

I have short-listed the huawei p30 pro, the Samsung s20 range, and the note 10+ (I currently have a note and I like the pen). Open to other options.

Interested to see what you come up with.

Buy latest LG phone, it will surely drop below $600 in a year time.

Wait for next Samsung Galaxy. They hit skids fast.

      • Which galaxy is that?

I bought my pixel 4 XL from Google at launch
    $1420
Just used price protection against vodafones deals at $714

    • Pixel 4 xl for $714? Can you please send us the link for that?

      • Voda had a deal where you sign up to month to month plan and you pay $714 for the phone. Thing is you could cancel in the first month from the plan and just pay out the $714 for the handset at which time they would give you an invoice. I used that invoice to claim price protection against the phone I bought at launch and surprisingly they accepted it and gave me back $700
