Ported from Telstra to Vodafone - People on Optus Can't SMS / Call Me

So I ported out of Telstra yesterday to Vodafone so I can eventually go back to Telstra when a good deal comes about…

Ported over within an hour, seemed all good. Until I tried calling my mobile off my mums mobile who is on the Optus network. It said my service was disconnected. I tried calling her and it went through fine.

Got few other people to try call me on differing networks and only people on Optus couldn't get through to me. Calls or SMS'. But I could do both to them.

So after doing some googling, found this as an irregular issue that happens from time to time when porting.

Either Telstra's systems didn't send all my data over properly or Optus' system isn't refreshing properly with my new info.

I've been talking to Voda chat for 2 days now, and they are generally trying to help but obviously this isn't a regular issue so their solution of resetting my phone isn't going to help. They have escalated my issue, but say it can take up to 72 hours to resolve.

So I'm hoping someone has had that issue from here and knows exactly what they did, so I can inform Vodafone on how to fix it. And if it ever happens to anyone else in the future; they can see this thread too and get it fixed sooner.

  • Are you sure the port has completed successfully? I thought porting didn't occur on Sunday.

If you've been speaking to Vodafone chat for two days now, then did you start speaking to them before you commenced the port?

    • I thought the same. But the port happened after an hour, which I was surprised about.

I spoke to them pretty much a minute after the port, as I got my Mum to call me and it said my service was disconnected. But my missus could call me ( who is on Telstra) and then I got a few others on Optus to call me and they had the same thing. Said my service was disconnected.

Really sounds like the port had only partially completed because of the weekend. Good you have VF on the case.

        • Yeah, that's what I've read on a few forums where people had this issue. Seems like weekends are not good to do a port

    • I'm talking to someone new again on Voda, and they seem to understand the issue and are giving me the email address for their MNP team (porting team) to get this fixed.

Bit odd that I have to send an email about it….but if it means it'll get fixed faster…

      • Email address is likely a covid measure rather than a normal practice. I wouldn’t be too concerned about that part.

I had to email virgin about flights and they replied within 20 mins.

yeah 100% its a half port.
This used to happen all the time on Sunday ports.
give it 24-48 hours and it will just correct itself.
Voda/Telstra will not be able to fix it manually and even if they did it would take longer for them to sort than for the problem to just rectify itself.

    • I think you’re right. I just tested it again and it worked.

      Thankfully!

Although now I’m getting all my work calls again :$

      • restart device now and then to relink to network also.

  • Ps. Another main reason I needed it working ASAP is my mum and grandma are both on Optus and I’m one of their main contacts for emergencies / when grandma needs something

  • Same issue happening to me. With Vodafone (Kogan) prepaid and some Optus friends can't reach me. Have been with Kogan now for at least 3 weeks and noticed the issue only within the last week. Previously, the person who told me they can't call or text me was able to reach me.

    • Well mine got fixed, I assumed it got fixed by itself as jimbob stated. But if you have had an ongoing issue for 3 weeks, I'd do a live chat session with Vodafone and push the issue. You must insist it's not your handset, it's not a coverage issue and that you've tried putting your sim in other phones.

That it was an error during the porting process and it needs to be escalated to the MNP team

I can give you the MNP teams email, but the live chat rep. told me you need a complaint number for them to reply to you

I noticed this morning all the texts and missed calls came through. Whatever it was has finally fixed itself. Who knows, maybe it was your chat with them that got it working after all hah
