External GPU Lenovo T460s? I Have a Spare NVIDIA 560

So it seems an external GPU is nowadays easier with laptops.

I have a spare Lenovo t460s that is in good shape and just fresh installed / cleaned up. I have the dock too. My youngest of 3 boys now also want to PC game and I am not ready to buy a third gaming PC… Waiting for 3xxx NVIDIA series too.

The question is to use an external GPU dock, that connects to an M2 port, and a PSU. The laptop is now tethered to this dock.

Here is a site and video that shows the connectivity options.

Parts.
NVIDIA 560 dual fan model. Works well
Lenovo's 460s
Don't have an extra PSU, but can go hunt with the verge cleanups.

Here is the M2 ports.

One is wifi
One is "WAN"??? And there seems to be a few articles on limits.on this shorter port (doesn't go to 80mm. This port is B keyed.

Main (3rd) port is M keyed and has the m.2 sata 500gb B&M drive in it.

Will this work? Other options. Still a decent laptop

Thx.

    EDIT

He's asking if an DIY external graphics card solution will work on his laptop.

It's a pretty ghetto solution as shown by LowSpecGamer, asides from the GPU, you'll also need to purchase a GPU dock, and an external power supply unit as the docks usually don't come with one. And then you'll have to worry about purchasing the right connector because there's like 2-3 different half height mini PCIE or M.2 connectors that exist on laptops.

If you need to buy a dock to make an ancient laptop work with an eGPU and do verge hunting for a PSU, wouldn't you be better off scrounging for an old desktop that you can just use without any of this hassle?

        • Yes. This is the other option.
And cleaner. The adaptor alone looks to be 90 bucks. Before PSU. + Less mobility
I have bought some of those refurb minis on eBay before.

      • Excellent Reddit link!!!! Thank you.

    • fair point! I thought the title was self-explanatory.

Added the website link and a one-liner explaining the title a bit better.

    WUT

Your post is very confusing, please fix the structure.
The YouTube video you provided is using NGFF but you only have M.2. Luckily this option is available too.
The video is actually really well made with good instructions.

    Will this work?

The video has shown that it works with NGFF.
Once you buy the M.2 dock and the PSU and connect it all up, please let us know. Your youngest would love it too!

I don't think its worth it tbh. 560 is a pretty weak card by today's standards and this will be a ghetto solution that isnt that cheap.

I just upgraded from a gtx 560 to an RX580 and the difference is huge!

I reccomend just getting a cheap gaming pc
