Pet Hair Trimmer Recommendations

Hi,

I've got a fluffy golden retriever in North Queensland and she swims every day. Her long fluffy hair gets yuck very quick… She is also a hot dog and she likes having a short coat.

Has anyone got some reasonably priced clippers they've liked and they lasted?

I’ve always had Golden Retrievers. In my personal opinion, you shouldn’t trim them to the point of having a short coat and I’m sure it isn’t recommended in general and a common misconception. https://www.grrmf.org/learn/grooming-your-golden/

They have amazing abilities to cool themselves even with long hair. I have a Furminator brush that deals with the shedding well.

Granted I don’t live in NQ but Goldens are pretty popular worldwide even in hot countries. I haven’t seen many clipped to very short hair.

Agree. Vets don't recommend clipping Goldens. Their coat is quite functional and protects them from UV rays and sunburn during the heat of the summer. This breed of dog also tend to have sensitive skin, and without all that fur protection, is very likely to set off some skin conditions.

Scissors and thinning shears are all you need.

    • Furminator isn't the best for long hair dogs either. It's actually cutting off their hair and the fur will feel and look rough when they grow back.

  • She is also a hot dog

    Yum! ;)

  • When we had our 2 long haired border collies, I bought a Wahl KM2 Two Speed Rotary Motor Pet Clipper with the assorted size combs. Highly recommended.
