Cheap and Reliable Way to Send Money to Italy

Can you please recommend a way to send money from OZ to Italy,
It will be a one time payment.
I've got a commbank account and their surcharge and exchange rate is pretty bad

Looking for recommendations from people who have send money recently.

Have a look at Transferwise - i have used it before to send money to Japan and was very happy with the rate & process overall.

I used Transferwise recently to another country but found it really simple with decent rates and deposited it straight into a bank accojnt. Can send via credit card or payID or most ways. There's a few similar companies, might be worth checking them out just to compare rates.

  • I posted a prepaid debit card to a relative in Greece which was loaded with a few thousand beforehand; they received the pin during a later phone call. They had no problems withdrawing from ATMs there, and I'm able to top-up the card if needed later.

    • this option would have bad exchange rates?

I have used all of them at different times successfully, they are normally pretty close to each other but I go with whatever has the best rate on the day, or if there is any promo going

    • thanks will have a look

  • I can also recommend TransferWise - great rates, honest fees and pain-free way to transfer money.
You transfer your money from an Australian bank to their Australian bank details, convert the money and then you can send to any Italian (or any bank in Europe) bank and call it a day.

  • I saw a company offering refer a friend get $35, and also free first 3 transfers. When searching google I found this, but there is another company also doing this, just cant think of its name right now https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/au/en/refer-a-friend

  • This may be the other company, 3 first free transfers and they also have refer a friend where you both get money https://www.worldremit.com/en/promotions/three-free?ds_kid=4…

  • OP, just out of curiosity, what was their surcharge, and the poor interest rate offered?

    • $12 surcharge, and exchange rate is 0.56xx compared to 0.59xx from the websites mentioned above

      • Damn, that's quite steep. Thanks for that
