  • I'm pretty sure you will have to read it to find out

  • Read what it says?

    • updated it please help it says:
robodebt social secrity debt collection class action vid1252/2019

  • go into your mygov and read the message then.

  • Edit:
"Under court orders issued in March, the government has been told to identify all potential class action members and send out notices via MyGov or by post about the upcoming court challenge by 25 May."

    Why are you stressing out?

Basically, the government did some shady stuff and you might be entitled to some compensation if the lawsuit wins.

oh fair enough got me scared at start. thanks

Maybe you needed a bigger tin hat?

    • what if it goes the other way and case loses?
it says we can opt out of the lawsuit if we want.

I guess it will depend on individual circumstances then.

If someone has a weak case against Robodebt (e.g lost almost all the evidence to support their case), but has enough evidence to support that they should be a plaintiff in the class action lawsuit then it might be beneficial for them to be part of the class action lawsuit.

If another person has a very strong case against robodebt or/and has been effected in such as significant way compared to others (e.g suicide) then it might be beneficial for the person to launch their own case against robodebt if they can fund it/find someone who will do it for a % of the compensation.

Yep, this is a court order for Services Australia to contact all potentially affected people. you are automatically part of the class action unless you opt-out. not legal advice, but in most cases you'd only want to do that if you were pursuing your own legal claim against them

  • All I got was an email from medicare wanting my organs.

  • I also got this and will be opting out.

    • may i know why ur opting out?

      • Because according to the records I kept, my debt was due to an error on my behalf.

        • That doesn't matter. The way they did it was unlawful and if you are entitled to compensation you shouldn't give it up so easily. Don't opt out unless you've got a really good personal case that you think is more likely to win.

@Quantumcat: Meh, I wasn't affected by the unlawful side of it so I don't really care. I'm not going to join a class action that's out to attack the same government entity that helped support me through my studies.

            • @[Deactivated]: Looks like you now might be getting a refund anyway?

              • @ssquid: I think so. I'm not across the details.
