$35 looks like data plan only (no calls)

  • +4

You scared me, just a data plan.
24m on the $65 mobile plan with optus for $700 gift card AT HN, vs 12m on the $65 telstra mobile plan for $400 gift card at TGG and JB.
    I know what I'd choose.

    • +6

      Telstra

Optus sucks worse than ever lately

      • +2

Yep, can't wait to Port back into Telstra from Optus…

  • 100 dollar a month if you take up both plans and get 110 GB per month with 1100 AUD value in gift card?

    • Correct.

    • +4

Their data plan use to be like this

Using my assumption below. You are paying $61 for 110G.

By the way Telstra now doing $65 for 200G with unlimited data and no contract.

      • How does your assumption work?

        • -3

As I explained below you put a 15% reduction on on the bonus you received to reflect that you are paying a higher price by shopping in Harvey (to use your gift card).

So your propose plan is $2400-($1100*0.85)=1465 which is your actual plan cost over 24 months, which work out to be $61 a month.

          • @syswong: But then does this need to happen when JB or the good guys do the same deal? I assume they not selling stuff to you at cost price either.

            • @Bryanalves: It depends, on average we are seeing JB do more bargains than Harvey. Also you are more likely to use the bonus in full potential with JB as they regularly discounting handsets.

Most important even when you price in the full gift card value in your plan, the current Telstra 200G still works out to be way better value. Then there is also the alternative to go to circle of life if you don't mind their service.

Telstra $65 for 200G, no contract, unlimited data.
Circle of live $56 for 200G (two sim), no contract.
Vodafone normal voice line $50 100G unlimited data, no contract.
This deal with gift card fully priced in $54.17 for 110G, 24 month contract.

I just don't see any value in promo, thats all.

      • -6

I don't usually do this but the one who neg me because???

  • +11

    24 month contract lolz.

    • +7

Well they aren't going to give you a $400 card on a contract that's only worth $420 ($35x12).

      • +1

If they made the plan as $20 per month no lock-in with call inclusions it would still make sense.. This just looks like an obfuscated attempt to put more money where it don't belong, i.e. up Gerry Harvey's where the sun don't shine.

      • Well, that sucks. :(

      • +2

They aren't paying $400 for the gift card.

        • -2

Not just that but given how Harvey price their products, customers are not necessary getting $400 worth either if you price in the discount you can get from other outlet like ebay. Friend of mine who is a channel manager said he always put a 15% discount of the value of such deal when you calculate the actual value you pay for the plan.

The only exception is when you have deal on a deal, like using a gift card / devices credit on the OPPO Reno 5G / Apple phone with beat headset (if that is still on). In such situation you are likely getting the full value out of the gift card / credit.

So with this deal you are paying around $20 for 30G but lock into a 24 month contract. A closer comparison would be $15 for 20G on Telstra with unlimited data and no contract. Looks Telstra trumps Optus on price no matter how you look at it.

    What's the cancellation cost?

  • Not a good deal I am afraid. The 24 months killed it on a data only plan.

  • +12

No deal. 24month plans are insanity these days.

      • +3

Many folk upvote based on the title without reading what the actual deal is.

        • -8

thats a BIG assumption on your part…. unless you have proof of this statement you make?

          • @bonky: I am the proof, title looks good but after reading the details, its not so hot

          • @bonky: Bit late to the party, but the proof would be in the votes on these comments :)

      • Perfectly balanced.. as all things should be

  • +5

With the current Telstra Deal, you pay $5 more and get 25G more, unlimited data and no lock in contract. So I don't understand how someone can argue on Optus side when I say Optus lost The Plot?. Sure the benefit of the Telstra deal out rank the Harvey gift card given how unoften Harvey come out with good deals.

Someone in Optus marketing department need to be sacked for coming up with garbage like this.

I do have to point out that form someone who is on both Telstra and Optus, Optus constantly out perform Telstra in Sydney CBD.

    • +1

I agree, Optus has been way better for me in Adelaide, and I've gone Optus > Telstra > Optus.

      • +1

Yeah I agree, seems Optus is the best choice in Adelaide for me

    • Right I currently pay $29 a month with telstra for 35gb non contract now

  • Many posts here advocating against 24 months (and I too agree that it's not a good decision to sign up for 24 month contract). But why nobody has down voted this deal?

    • Just have.

      • I joined you :)

        • Some people are scared … it’s ozbargain ,
Anyhow, Harvey Norman deals are like Kogan ,
Catch and eBay specific items deals

  • I signed up to the Telstra JB deal for 24 months but very unimpressed with the reception… Quite often no bars especially indoors. No problems with Optus or Voda…do any of you know if it's possible to get out of a contract because of crap signal?

  • it's been a while since Optus had a good plan. Or any other provider for the matter.

  • +3

optus and telstra both have become suckers, their plans are so much costlier then a year ago and on top of it they do not provide any international calls included in the plan.

I was with optus 30$ plan which had 300 intl calls, 35 gb data.

  • Honestly this isn’t a deal to me. No calls, being stuck on a useless plan for 24 months plus the Optus coverage for what? Just a gift card?

    • For people that want data on a lte tablet?

      • There are better plans? And you don’t have to be stuck on a plan for 2 years.

        • +1

Well you knocked it for no calls?

      • +1

I got the Telstra 5GB data plan for $5 per month (first 12 months) and unlimited peace of mind data (lower speed).

  • Hardly Normal bargain

  • Would this include unmetered Netflix ?

  • +2

24 months lock-in, Just data, no calls = Not a good deal.

Just get Telstra's XS Plan (5GB + POM data) for $15, reduced to $5 for 12 months, and save yourself the regret in 2-3 months when the giftcard is a distant memory.

  • Reckon this is available for Amaysim customers? I know Telstra deals are not valid for customers on one of their reseller providers. Wonder if it's the same with Optus.

  • Wow.. This is just a data plan? That's ridiculous.
I'm with Optus and on the same deal but it's unlimited national calls and text, INTL calls and only $31 a month.

  • $700 for the voice + data plan

  • Had a previous terrible experience with Harvey Norman NOT honoring these gift vouchers (10% returned in gift vouchers offer) because something I was buying was price match was too cheap to offer a voucher with it ($700 fridge AND $500 washing machine), salesperson could not point out to me where it said in their conditions that this was a thing and refused it. Beware!

    • +1

So how did that story end?

If your experience is true that is one match in hell. The over priced garbage telco with the over priced garbage retailer. Some Harvey branch are greedy down to the bone.

      • +1

This was at the Dandenong South store. Basically told the salesperson my opinion on the matter (point out to me where it says this cannot be honored, free delivery instead etc) in respectful terms and he was having none of it, sadly was desperate for these items as we had just moved house so bought them as they were still slightly cheaper and delivered sooner. The fridge was a very decent price match though ($200 or so off).

Called up a few weeks later as I found the same washing machine cheaper elsewhere (physical store), as they also advertise their "Price Guarantee which means that we will match genuine advertised prices of leading Australian in store and online retailers.", to this they refused also as they said their price included installation, to which I said "so you plug it into the wall?". Also couldn't point out to me where it said that was included in the price. Long story short, that was refused too..

Would avoid this dodgy company at all costs now no matter how much cheaper their items are.

  • Not sure why expired now? Deal is available until withdrawn…

    • Haha Gerry should give you a reward for you dedication!!

On a serious note, as we discuss here this is quite a poor deal. Not your fault, just stating the facts.

      • Should be "Sh!tty Deal" banner then lol
