What's the future of the "Telstra 200GB" add-on for OneDrive cloud storage, and who still uses it in 2020?

A lot of people got the "Telstra 200GB" bonus storage for OneDrive around some time in 2016 I believe. Mine is still active and I use it to store my photos and stuff.

I was wondering if anyone was aware what the future of this bonus is. Is it going to continue forever (in the near future)… and if not when do you expect it to expire. It's the best free storage out there for me, as all other services offer 5-15GB on their free tier.

Also when you lose online storage space on any cloud service, what do they do with your data. Do they hold onto it for a bit and try to get you to re-sign up?

if they switch it off and your allowance is lowered, you are given a warning to move your data
if you do not move your data the data remains but you can not access anything that is in the "locked" portion of your storage.
from memory around 12m after this they will delete the data/pics/files in the area above your "free allocation"

    • that's not the worst thing I guess, so if my data did become locked one day, I could pay 1 month's fee and download it onto my own storage

yeah pretty much, One drive is known for making the process of downloading your data quite convoluted and also terribly slow
they really want you to keep the service so they have made large downloads of data a slow and painful process.

oh really? that sucks. wasn't aware of that. everything i've used onedrive for, it has felt pretty clean. the windows 10 software, the iOS app, uploading pictures was a breeze and organising them on the iOS app was fine too.

          • @TwentyTwoCarats: one or two files now and then is quite simple
its the process of a single data dump that is slow etc

  • Yep. I still use my 200GB. Not sure if i need to keep my telstra service active to keep it but it is active.
I enjoy my 200gb. Its more than enough for my needs.

    • Yeah it's an awesome bonus haha. I haven't had any active Telstra service since early 2018 yet I still have the 200GB.

Wow. Imagine if you had gotten TWO (or more) telstra services back then! You'd be laughing

Yeah lmao. I was already laughing because I got on a 2 year staff plan about a month before resigning. So I was paying about $45 a month for a plan that was probably $90 for everyone else.

Feels good to reap some benefits from a company that's kinda evil (my take from being in sales there).

  • Three years later …. yep, still 200GB on my onedrive.

  • Still got it but you should have not posted this to remind Telstra here.
