Denon Receiver Repair

I've got a surplus Denon AVR-X2000 Receiver. It was playing up and I replaced it with a new Denon I got off a deal here.

Now I want to use it in my man-cave. It has the dreaded power led flashing red issue. I've tried the micro processor reset and no good.

I'm thinking I should get it repaired. Does anyone have any experience with this? Recommended places? I'm in Sydney West.

  • What is the circumstances of the red flashing. Is it after a while or straight away when turned on?

  • I turn it on

Flashes green a bit, display lights up and cycles, about 2 seconds

Display turns off and power led flashes red

  • I don't know if its rubbish or not, but when I was researching this a long time ago but I did read that sometimes an accumulation of dust in the headphone jack hole can cause this by shorting the connections inside the hole. (mine turned out to be overheating due to not enough airflow so it wasn't relevant to my problem).

I know I am not answering your question but it's an easy thing to try. Even plugging and unplugging a headphone plug a few times or cleaning out with a cotton bud and alcohol with the power off, or both.

  • I'll give that a try. I had thought it might be overheating when I replaced it (about a year ago) but that's clearly not the case. I'll also try blowing all the dust out as that can't hurt as well.

  • Had something similar in our Yamaha amp, turned out to be a flakey resistor in the power supply protection circuit. Needed a pro to fix it though.

  • There's some youtube videos showing how to fix. But he commented "advanced soldering skills". Yeah nuh. Maybe if it was "sloppy soldering skills with some burning".

I messaged a company in Baulkham Hills. At least they replied but didn't help:

If the you press the power on button and then after about 3 seconds it clicks off showing fault. Probably an output stage failure but could be anything that triggers fault mode.

We dont fix this stuff as cheaper to buy a new and better brand. Suggest Harmon Kardon.
