Phone Port from Telstra to Kogan. Taking Forever

Hey guys,

Currently doing a phone number port from Telstra to Kogan for my father and its now over 48 hours and yet its still not done.

Thus far all Kogan support has stated is that they've "escalated the matter"

What I actually did.

My father recently got a new phone number with Telstra. Prior to even activating the number he shared the number out (The number is on the packaging you get from Woolworths) to close friends and extended family. I noted it wasn't yet activated & decided to go with Kogan due to price. In order to keep the number I activated the sim with Telstra & then straight away started the port process over to Kogan. On a verification step you receive an sms from Kogan on the number to be ported & at which point you are to respond back to the SMS… Seeing there was zero credit on the Telstra sim card I rang Kogan instead and gave it over the phone which they had no issues with.

48 hours later and still the port has not happened.. I have made several enquiries & I am stuck with "the matter has been escalated to the appropriate team".

  • Account holder name & birth date are the exact same give to both Telstra and Kogan

Its doubtful that anyone can offer much in the way of suggestions here, but i figured its worth a try anyway.

Suggestion: Avoid Kogan and their awfully poor/non-existent customer service. If this is what happens now, imagine later on when you have a problem. You get what you pay for.

  • should not taking more than one or two hours max. longer than that means trouble.

    • Yes exactly.. I will just cancel the port if they do not provide some progress/port complete within 2 hours from now..

Rather just go to another provider at this rate.

Kogan uses telstra. porting within the same network often takes a few days
if you were coming from a different carrier it would have been a few minutes

      Kogan uses Vodafone

My Telstra to Telstra (business to consumer) transfer process has taken exactly a month so far and still no sign of it happening…so in your case the fault could be on Telstra's side.

    • Totally different scenario

  • I had raised a support ticket online with Kogan and they told me to respond with the following information.

    Customer Name:
    Starter Pack Mobile Number:
    Porting Mobile Number:
    Name of Losing Carrier:
    DOB (if Prepaid Number):
    Account Number (if Post-paid Number):
7 Digit Pre Port Authorisation Code:

After providing the data, it took them 47 hours to confirm receipt and that activation had started. Probably another hour or two after that; activation and porting was complete.

  • . In order to keep the number I activated the sim with Telstra

    Under who's name?
