Good to know what business I won't support in the future. International students only lmao

I thought it was unlawful to discriminate on the basis on national origin or citizenship.

    • +1

That only applies when the discrimination is against a minority. Imagine if this said "white people only".

      • I was holding back but where does it say only non-whites? International students can be from Europe, US etc. and they are pretty white.

Also to Voteoften, is this the same discrimination as medicare benefits for Australian citizens? Higher fee for international students? Cheaper fee for Australian citizens? Free tafe courses for Australian citizens in Victoria?
*not saying that it should be available to everyone. But complaining that international students are getting a $10 freebie is discrimination to Australian citizens is bit of a stretch don't you think?

International students specifically excludes Australian citizens. You know, the people of the country that let you open this store to earn a living.

Also to Voteoften, is this the same discrimination as medicare benefits for Australian citizens? Higher fee for international students? We pay tax for those benefits

Cheaper fee for Australian citizens? We pay tax for those benefits

you didn’t reply to that part?

Australian citizens are of all races. Why did you assume that it was only for non whites?

See I knew this will be your and their answer. How predictable! International students also pay taxes on their income, how surprising?

I didn't reply because you were cherry picking. I simply used white people as a comparison for outrage, not specific to this deal.

Australian citizens are of all races. Why did you assume that it was only for non whites?

Once again, cherry picking, I only used white people as an example because it's one of the most common when it comes to "discrimination"

See I knew this will be your and their answer. How predictable! International students also pay taxes on their income, how surprising?

International students on a student visa can work up to 40 hours per fortnight, let's assume minimum wage. (this is being generous considering most international students are younger than the adult award rate) So at ~$19.50 per hour multiplied by 40 hours = $780 per fortnight. Multiply this figure by 26 fortnights and you get $20,280. Tax on this amount comes to a massive $395.2, less the Low income tax offset ($445) leaving you with $0 in tax. How surprising?

              • @[Deactivated]: Downvoted and no response. What a surprise.
