Upgrading from a Bose Lifestyle 18

Hi, I had some great advice the other day from the brains trust so here I go again.

I have an old Bose Lifestyle 18, specs at this link https://www.cnet.com/products/bose-lifestyle-18-series-iii-h… that I am thinking of upgrading.
Reasons, bluetooth connectivity for one, and an improved sound.
I've had a Lifestyle system earlier than this model and I'm not sure why, but it performed a whole lot better. I have mucked around with the settings, did the whole headphone system set up and everything but it truly doesn't seem to have heaps of volume!

I wouldn't mind if I had to set up with a separate amp and speaker set up (surround) but looking for recommendations for something under the $1500 mark. thanks

  • While technically you can connect the satellite speakers to a third party amp, you will also require a third party bass module, and they will generally sound worse. These speakers are designed to run through the bass module, so they are tuned with that bass in mind. Add any other bass and they are not tuned properly for it.

So it has a Bose cable from the console to the Bass, and then speaker wires out to the satellites. Hence you need to replace the console and the bass.

  • hi, thanks. Yep was thinking of replacing the whole thing. The speakers and the active sub/ amp.
