Any Chance These Are Caused By Termites?

My tenant reported that ants have been digging dirt up between the cracks between house and sidewalk.

However, this seems to be quite a lot of dirt. Could it possibly be termites causing this?

Hard to say, they look like normal ant mounds to me

Can't completely tell from those photos but it's not likely. Termites don't like going out in the light and they don't leave dirt, they leave poo which they push out of holes in the wood they live in. So it wouldn't be piled up outside the outer brick walls. It has a distinctive geometric shape too.

I agree with Ssquid. Termites tend to build a tunnel for them to move around in, not throw around loose sand. Ant sand, $5 from Bunnings .

  • Looks like ants. I had those indoors one summer, came through the carpet window edge, then dissappeared overnight. Pest guy said ants moving after storm.

  • Ants.

  • Sweep away, then blast into all those cracks along the brick base with ant powder.

  • Ants mate, like the others have said. Sweep or blow it away, then either dust or Ant Rid liquid.

  • Nope
    Termites dont dig up sand
Instead They build mud caves through which they travel

But yes you have an ant problem
    Get the pestie out

I should add that ants usually build dirt mounds around the entrance to thier nest when they expect rain. The sand mounds help to keep rain from draining into the nest.

    So expect some rain shortly

    • what kind of problems would the ants cause if left untreated?

      • Not much, spending on the type of ants.

  • I remember watching a tv show with an interview of an entomologist and he said he encourages ants around the outside of his house as they are the natural enemy of termites
