I was in a similar position pretty much 12 months ago, you need to be more specific.

What size are you after? they range from 13-18 inches
Do you care about battery life or will it be plugged in the majority of the time?
Are you looking to buy new, used, or refurbished?
Does it need to be portable or is it a desktop replacement?
What games do you play or need this laptop to play?

  • Most of the gaming laptops I researched/tested were decent but many of the ultrabooks struggled due to their performance vs the size of the chassis.
The laptop I ended up buying was a Gigabyte Aero 15, but it was an older version with the 8th generation cpu because it performed just as good as the model with the 9th generation replacing it due to the excessive throttling needed to keep the laptop from overheating.

Other laptops i'd check out the MSI GF65, the Razor 15, and the Asus TUF A15.

  • I'm looking at the Asus Zephyrus G14 at the moment. Seems to get good reviews and has decent pricing. Just trying to decide if it's worth spending a bit extra to go up to the Ryzen 9 model.

Great battery life and still a nice portable size as I work as a IT consultant.

  • Asus tuf A15 if you want most bang for your bucks. Otherwise G14.

  • Thanks all. Confused between Asus Zephyrus G14 and Asus Tuf A15

    • Extra portability of the G14 comes at a price. If you don't cart it around all day save some money and go the A15. When it comes to laptops the less there is the more it costs!

  • The Dell XPS13/15 are always good buys however Ryzen's TDP smashes intel out of the water and I'd go with a Ryzen CPU as others have suggested.
I'd also suggest not paying the premium and going for a gaming laptop. A desktop will be much better, however you may have your reasons.

Also I'd suggest you hold out for the next wave of video cards to come out because supposedly the next mid tier card from AMD will be on par/beat the current flagship (2080Ti). Essentially this means you'll be getting a ton more bang for your buck, especially if you get an older generation laptop.
Unless you need one now, I'd wait til September.

    • Yeah I would go for desktop but I need a laptop and I have to buy it in month of June for Study purposes

    • Dell Vostro 15 Laptop $1,898.99

    I'm in a similar market.

Found this last night. Lenovo legion Y540 w/ RTX2060

Unclear on which version of the monitor it is and what config the RAM is (I'm assuming 60Hz and 2x8 respectively), but for $1832 with i7-9750H & RTX2060 it kind of ticks my boxes for the price I'm willing to pay.

Still tossing up between this and the A15… This is cheaper than the A15 with RTX and the A15 had a better CPU, but I'm yet to see it under $1999

    • I bought 8 Legion Y540's for a customer recently as it was all we could get in stock. The power supply on these things is the biggest brick I've ever seen and battery life is only 1.5 hours for office use.

It's a nice laptop to type on and use for Microsoft Teams meetings though.

    • Can anyone confirm if the monitor is only 60Hz?

  • I'm also looking for similar laptop.
Anyone knows if the TUF A15 will be available in Oz with the 90Wh battery? All I've seen is the 48Wh models here.

    • Have been looking at the TUF a15 for a couple of weeks and have not seen the bigger battery model at all.

Actually just pulled the trigger on this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-TUF-A15-15-6-144Hz-Ryzen-7-…
Came down to $1899 with PMONTH200 coupon, could have saved a dollar but this seller had .1% higher feedback

  • I bought the Intel designed Aftershock Vapor 15 Pro with the 1660ti and it's a weapon of a laptop. In America their equivalent is the Mag 15 if you want to look up reviews. Can't fault it.

  • In waiting on the aftershock 17 laptop. I messaged them last week and they said preorders gonna happen within the next couple weeks.

  • Thankyou all. Finally chose the Asus Zephyrus G14 with Ryzen 4800H,16GB RAM and 4 GB NVIDIA GTX1650Ti.
