You can also get an Amazon Echo Show 8 free if that's more your thing.

Seems like you could get much better audio setup for that money though.

How does this compare to Samsung Q90R Soundbar?

    Sonos? No thanks.

I'm in the market for an Atmos soundbar but very reluctant to splash that much coin without demo or reading creditable reviews… and if one commits to Sonos' ecosystem, the whole set up will be more expensive than Yamaha YSP-5600BMK2 and close to the Sennheiser Ambeo range… Good and tempting marketing ploy by Sonos though

The Ambeo is amazing for a 1 piece

It's an object of desire yet to be beaten by the competition. It sits atop the food chain with no one even coming close to it…..yet

  • No hdmi 2.1 4k 120fps pass through?

    • It doesn’t have 2x ports, so will not effect video in any way.

Almost bought it until I read this soundbar only has a single HDMI (so, no pass through) and your tv needs to have an eARC HDMI port with capability of converting Dolby True HD Atmos to Dolby Digital Plus Atmos. (Ref: https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.cnet.com/google-amp/news…). My tv doesn’t qualify.

All that time wasted and compromises made to convince my partner to let me buy this!!

Good deal if you have a capable tv though. Upvote!

Yeah see I’m super keen to pre order one and this kinda puts me on the fence as everything I read seams to paint 1 of 2 pictures.
      1. It does not do atmos at all unless you have eARC on your tv.
      Or
      2. It’s doesn’t do the full uncompressed atmos if your tv doesn’t have eARC. If your tv just has ARC (like mine) than it’ll just do the standard compressed Atmos, and considering that I’m just going to be watching streaming services all the time that will make 0 difference to me.
If I had a 4K blu-ray Player and also purchased blu-ray instead of streaming everything than yeah, might be annoyed.

I was thinking of thanking the seek forgiveness instead of permission with the misses but honestly it’s pretty annoying that I can’t find a definitive answer to “is it scenario 1, or 2”

      edit
Just found this on the Sonos website
If you connect to a TV with eARC, the Dolby audio formats supported include Dolby Atmos, TrueHD, MAT, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby Digital.

If you connect to a TV using ARC, the Dolby audio formats supported are dependent on your TV model and manufacturer. The TV may be capable of sending Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby Digital. An ARC connection cannot support TrueHD or MAT.
      —————
So in English from my understanding, eARC does all the things.
Otherwise it depends on what your TV supports + you can get uncompressed Atmos

      • I was in the same assumption. But….

Not necessarily you need an eArc. eArc is required only when your source system (TV) has atmos output. If you need to still use your old (non eArc) tv and have the atmos system. Then there is a work around. You need to have 2 devices. A dolby atmos player like Apple TV 4k or latest nvidia shield tv, then connection from apple tv taken in to another device called HDMI Splitter 1 input to 2 output. From these 2 output 1 can be taken to your TV and the other to the Sonos arc. This way you could get the full atmos sound environment.

This deals reminds me of the one at the servos.
Spend $10 instore to get 10c a litre off fuel. Spend money to save money?! 🤦‍♂️
Makes no sense unless you actually need something. The amount of times the guy behind the counter tried to upsell me always cracked me up.

  • PSA: If your goal is function over form get a traditional home theatre system over a soundbar. If your goal is small form factor or WAF, go soundbar.

If you're after a soundbar and not specifically Sonos - I have one of these and I am very happy with it, currently heavily discounted:

    stick with the Samsung Q90R.

    Amazing piece of gear.

  • Worth mentioning if you have any Really really old Sonos devices - this one will force you to upgrade to the S2 app coming soon.

Makes my upgrade for this. Also need an upgrade for my Sonos original amp.
