Cartier Polish Service

Hello fellow ozbargain,

I accidentally dropped a new Cartier platinum ring on the floor and now it's got scratches all around it (yes I agree very stupid), it is only a week into use and felt so heartbroken. So obviously I would like to get that polished up, just wondering if any of you have had the polish service before, and how much does it cost? Whilst I understand polish may not help too much but hopefully was able to cover some scratch marks. I did pay with Amex so hoping Amex accidental damage will be able to cover for this service.

Thanks all

  • Rotate the scratch to where it's no longer visible and forget about it. In a day or two you should forget..

    • Yeah except it's got scratch all around it…. It's like a tiny bit of dent on one spot and scratch everywhere else, so yeah but thanks for the input :)

  • What did you drop it on to create such carnage?

I dropped it on the tile floor and it rolled for a few more tiles (sigh, lesson learnt)

Are you planning to continue to wear it at all?
Because chances are you will get more scratches on it unless it's locked in a safe box somewhere.
I'd learn to live with the scratches (the first ones always hit the hardest) and continue to enjoy wearing it.

    • Cause this is a wedding band that my fiancé bought, I was just trying it on (and now I know it fits), so hopefully get that to as mint condition as I can for the photo shoot at wedding in October. Won’t be wearing it anymore until the big day.

      • Sorry may not be clear in the post, when I say a week into use I mean bought it last week and only got time to try it, so definitely (hopefully) still under Amex buyers protection.

        • Why would Amex buyers protection help you when you dropped it?

      • wedding band that my fiancé bought, I was just trying it on

That's bad luck in some societies. Looks like it's already started.

For me planning wedding in 2020 is the start of my bad luck lol, very difficult with guest numbers and stuff

A Cartier ring owner cares how much it costs to have it polished? Whatever the price is would be negligible in comparison to the cost of the ring.

    • Yeah he does, well I guess I bought it too new and felt the pain, if it had been worn for longer I guess I would have a different mindset.

Because it's such a new ring, I'd actually try taking it back to Cartier and asking them. They'll probably do it for free as part of their aftersales service.

Good idea will ring them tomorrow and see

    • Whatever the price is would be negligible in comparison to the cost of the ring.

It’s a 3.8k ring, so hopefully even if after sale service not going to cover it Amex $500 will still make it, or not needing to pay too much extra

Tbh if you just want it to look good for the photo shoot, can you get the same looking imitation ring online and just wear that for the shoot.

  • Take it to where it was bought and they might polish it for free. I was wearing mine when I went into the store to try on wedding bands with the wife. They saw I had my other Cartier ring on and asked if i wanted a free polish and clean.

  • I would recommend not doing anything until you wait 2 weeks. If you still want it polished, you lose out on nothing from waiting. Chances are you won't care anymore after 2 weeks and will save the money

    • Agree. It's going to get scratched, it's just got scratched sooner rather than later. Watch collectors think of scratches giving the watch character - a good attitude.

  • Do they zoom in on the wedding ring in wedding photos? If not then don't worry about it.

They do usually do a few close ups.
