      • Sorry can’t comment on the click and collect as no bing Lee’s in qld.

    • Ouch. I was almost in the same boat. Was wanting to buy one but thought I’d just wait a little longer. Got lucky.

Hmm,got the crucial mx for my old pc from another deal. Shall I buy this for my old iMac? Anyone has the experience to boost iMac from T5?Is it good and easy to implement?

if you're aiming to speed up the computer's performance an SSD wont really help

      • Why is that? Wouldn't replacing a spinning HDD with an SSD and booting from that provide a significant performance improvement?

        • +1

This isn't an internal SSD though. It won't suit that purpose. SSDs in general will provide a drastic speed boost because the OS can load a lot faster

        • -1

Things might load faster sure, but it will still be hobbled by old CPU and RAM, on top of the fact that it probably has older USB port connections which will slow down the drives maximum capability significantly. You would be far better off just getting an internal SSD and trying to replace it yourself or paying to get it replaced, which either way would end up cheaper and yield better results than the external SSD.

i have a 2013 imac with 1tb traditional Hard Drive and it was very slow. Plugged the t5 into the usb port of the computer and created a bootable drive from it and it immediately boosts the speed and makes it feel like a brand new computer (from 2 minutes to 30 seconds boot up and apps launch in seconds). Definitely worth it if your computer has a usb 3.0 port at least.

      • Did you consider using thunderbolt connection vs USB?

        • you could probably use thunderbolt but it wouldn't be much of a speed difference for the T5. You may need an apple adapter to connect the T5 to old imac's if you plan to use it's thunderbolt port. USB 3.0 is more convenient if you have the extra port to dedicate to it.

    A rookie here.
Can I use this to upgrade my Macbook pro 2015 model?
    thanks in advance.

    • +1

      It's external storage only.

    • +1

You can use it as external drive, but won't be able to upgrade internal SSD.

      • Any suggestions for internal drive repplacement?

        • SN550 with an adapter.

        • Avoid Samsung OEM NVMe and 970 EVO / Plus drives.
These have known issues with MacBooks.
          I made that mistake.

Crucial from what I hear is generally OK.
Also if SN550 is proven as per @poporange630 said, then that!!

Thanks OP. Been waiting for a good deal like this. Picked one up.

  • How does this compare to Crucial MX500?

    • +1

Samsung T5 is an external drive and you need a separate USB enclosure for MX500.
T5 is smaller in physical size (half of MX500)
In terms of performance, both T5 and MX500 are similar giving ~500MB/s read and write via USB 3.
      MX500 has a 5 year warranty and I think T5 is 3 years.

  • Can’t click and collect

  • Hmm don't need but like the look

What's the best efficient way to upgrade macbook pro 2013 internal storage? Don't have much experience.

  • +4

Amazon is matching $199. Ok for those don't have eBay Plus

  • If I use this as a boot drive on my iMac (thunderbolt 3), would it be limited in anyway? As in bandwidth…

  • Seems to be out of stock? Was just about to pull the trigger… obviously.

  • +1

Thanks all. Price matched from bing Lee at officeworks $189.05

  • Interesting that the eBay listing now says "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing."

  • Did anyone else receive the following message from Bing Lee? Is the T5 a discontinued model?

This email is in relation to your order of the Samsung 1TB SSD MU-PA1T0B.

Unfortunately there has been a stock issue as the model was scheduled to be transferred from across NSW and ACT stores to fulfill the orders. I'm afraid that stock was not all new due to a listing error and the model has since been discontinued in our system.

We do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

There is stock available for this Seagate 1TB SSD model:

    https://www.binglee.com.au/seagate-stjd1000400-1tb-expansion…

If you wish to change to the above model we can refund any shipping fees paid.

    • Same here. Shame on Bing Lee. I’ll try to ask them to keep my order on hold until the product arrives in stock. But looks like won’t honour their promise.

    • Me too. T5 is better than the Seagate 1TB SSD. I bought T5, not Seagate 1TB SSD, I do not know how they can do that.
