Dell XPS or is there something better for the price?

After chatting to peeps on this forum and had great feedback I would love to pick brains again.

I had a look at a few laptops, love the Dell xps but now quite like the touch screens also (which I didn't before I tried them out ha!)

So, Dell has the XPS 13 for $1698 basic model. Would there be anything else for the same price that is better?

Cheers

    Lenovo Carbon X1 /thread

    Peace out Fam

    • haha love it… cheers

    • Mixed experiences for me, got the Yoga before, initial it was so good, after 12 months, things are start to fall apart, quality is not great, No Lenovo for me, I rather get Dell or HP their after service is really good.

      • Yeah the yogas are a different kettle of fish. My yogas motherboard died and I replaced it with a carbon. Kind of happy it did tbh because the build quality and just general feel of the carbon is far better.

  • Just go over to Reddit's Dell subreddit… nothing but horror stories from XPS users.
You are paying Apple's price for a laptop but you are getting a consumer quality Dell laptop!
Just keep lurking on OzB for laptops and I am sure in a few weeks a killer deal will come and you will bite the bullet on a chosen one.

    • I can't see anything bad about the xps 13? 2020.

      • Dell isn't doesn't have fanboys constantly praising their products, like Apple. The subreddit is full of people with issues sure, but there is a larger group of people (including myself) who don't make posts, because their XPS 13 2020 is great!

Only tip I would get is to avoid the 4k option if you want more than 5 hours of battery. As nice as the screen looks, it can struggle to last a full day

I don't think there are issues with Dell, no more than any other brand. The fact is Dell's market share is double that of Apple, and the majority are from the perspective of beaten workhorse usage rather than the luxury/high-end perspective of Apple.

        • In my experience Dell laptops are full of issues. Had two high end 15" Dell Xps models and they were the most frustratingly crap laptops I have ever owned. Constant problems

  • I would consider a spectre X360 (which I am waiting on a deal for) and also a Lenovo X1 carbon

At this point the spectre x360 is the top of my list because hp does decent student discount. (was 40%. currently 30%)

Sexy, but the Spectre complaints are typically heat (uncomfortably hot), overheating and/or fan noise.

X1 would be my choice despite the slightly less glam appearance.

  • I have the 2020 dell and it's awesome. Absolutely love it. Keyboard, screen, speed and ability to upgrade ssd is great. Had some issues with speakers but audio driver updates have fixed it.
