CAPTCHA on thìs site

It started yesterday on my home pc. There aren't even the photos to prove I'm a human. I don't have a virus or malware, unless Bitdefender and Malwarebytes have both failed.

It suggests I turn off the ad-blocker. No difference.

Any theories on why?

    You're failing the OzBargain CAPTCHA?

Then how are you posting now?

    • "on my home pc."

Most likely posting from a mobile.

  • Only on this site?

    Any theories on why?

Well one way to make money is solving CAPTCHAs and one (criminal) way to solve CAPTCHAs is having other people do it for you. I have heard of criminals adding a CAPTCHA to windows login and such before.

If you're connecting using any kind of VPN or proxy there may be other bad traffic coming from the same IP address which will lead to Cloudflare and others adding a CAPTCHA.

  • Only on this site. Posting from mobile here. I am using a VPN on home pc so maybe that's it.

I will try turning off vpn (Surfshark) to test that theory but unless I get CAPTCHA'd off more sites I will continue using it.

    • Hi Shaybisc,

Please open a support ticket https://www.ozbargain.com.au/contact, or use the Talk with a Mod forum if you continue to have issues with captcha with your SurfsharkVPN turned off.

We recently switched to cloudflare as protection against continual DDoS and bot attacks, and it might have flagged certain IP addresses as suspicious.

  • Turned off Surfshark and CAPTCHA goes away. Annoying. Also started doing it on Whirlpool today. Those are the only 2 sites so far.

    • I've noticed this too with Surfshark. But the CAPTCHA only occurs when I'm using the VPN at work. Other than that it works fine apart from some websites redirecting me to the Indian version of the website despite me being on an AU server.

    • Then you're probably going to have a problem with all sites using protection offered by CloudFlare when using your VPN.

  • It has stopped. Back to normal now. Surfshark on - no CAPTCHA here or Whirlpool. I hope normality continues.
