[PC] Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality - 1427 DRM-free Games/Projects - $5.00 USD Minimum @ itch.io

711

itch.io is running a bundle inspired by current events in the United States. $5 minimum purchase price, with all proceeds split between the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund.

Any member of itch.io can add their piece of content to the bundle (doesn't necessarily need to be a game but the majority are), which is why there's over 700 projects at present. Due to the nature of itch.io and the bundle, many of these games will be experimental but there are plenty of full commercial products included too.

They get really disturbed feelings whenever someone mentions supporting non-white non-straight causes.

Original post from the r/gamedeals subreddit, I thought this was handy.

Purchasing this bundle links you to a page with buttons to add each individual game to your library, rather than adding them all at once, for the sake of keeping peoples' libraries clean. If you want to add every single game to your library (for browsing in the itch.io app, for example), then you can open up the bundle page with all the links, then run this javascript code in your browser's developer tools console:

    Array.from(document.querySelectorAll("div.game_row_data div.button_row form.form")).forEach( function(element, index, array) { var csrf_token = element[0].value; var game_id = element[1].value; jQuery.post(window.location.href,"csrf_token="+encodeURIComponent(csrf_token)+"&game_id="+game_id+"&action=claim"); } );

It will throw a bunch of errors in the console (as your browser prevents the page redirects) and will stop adding games after a while; when that happens (the purchases page will stop saying 'last added 1 second ago') just refresh the page and run the code again to resume. If everything on that page is complete, move on to the next page. If you don't refresh the page it will attempt to re-redeem all the games you just tried to add.

Note that itch.io has a comment "If you’re a developer who is interested in adding their project to the bundle please reply to the top-level post in this thread." so there may be future additions to the bundle. You can re-run the above code to add them to your library at that later date as well.

When you're all done, which is when refreshing the bundle and putting that code in on any bundle page no longer updates your purchases page, you won't quite have 744 games in your library - many of them are browser-based and can't be downloaded. A list of those are included below in the "Browser-based Games" section, along with links.

Thanks, I was planning on writing my own script for this so this saved me some effort.

Apparently there are 100 more "projects" (I would guess mostly games) coming tomorrow, in this same bundle. Has to be a good deal. Source: https://twitter.com/moonscript/status/1269157695442939904?s=…
I guess everyone is just spoilt with all the A+++ titles appearing for free on Epic Games at the moment; this deal has not even made the front page, yet to me it is the best deal in years. I guess not everyone sees value in DRMFree - which is strange, I would have thought it really fitted in with the OzBargain Psyche. Download once, own forever.

    • It appears on the front page depending on your settings.

It's not surprising that these games are drm free lol.

Do they know the scum who will receive the BAIL money? Not just the peaceful protesters.

Amazing deal and for a great cause!
Thanks for the recommendations too. :)

Wow… best bundle ever for $5

  • +2

Bought this for a few games. But that is one huge pile of shit.

Edit the process of adding games to your library is horrific. You have to basically comb through 700 titles, split into 25 pages seperate pages, each time you want to add one game to your library. Or you run a script to add the whole pile of crap.

This is so poorly put to together it's amazing.

It's missing on purpose, but will be present later. https://twitter.com/moonscript/status/1269070248168181760
Due to the popularity of the bundle, if everyone was pressing an add all button, the servers would be down even longer than they already have.
Remember that Itch isn't the same as every other online gaming store, developers are allowed to give Itch a 0% cut. Not to even mention they are making zero profit from these bundles. Resource management is precious, and while I do feel the short-term pain of having to comb through titles, it is a wise decision to make that allows the site to actually remain online. Would you rather a website that just works, or no site at all

      • +2

I understand that. Also I don't want to add it all or use a script. Anyway it takes more effort to paginate your list then it is to just leave it a single page which is searchable and accessible. If resources (asset loading) was the issue.. Don't load images or much smaller ones? It doesn't seem like there's any genuine excuse for a non-searchable, paginated list other than to say I wanted it to be that way. If that's the case, fair enough, have it your way opinionated developer. By no means am I saying they should've dumped hundreds of titles into your library. Just that the effort they did put in missed the mark.

Still impressed they pulled this bundle off at all. Also why can't you change your neg to a positive? Even if they address it, I can't thumbs it up. Makes me looks like I'm hating on the whole thing but I really just didn't like this one certain part.

I think the feature doesn't exist because there's been no real need for it to be made. It sure makes sense to have in this bundle, but that's as it is also just the largest bundle they've ever had, and continues to grow as more developers just toss their games in for support of the cause. I'm sure leaf wasn't going to be able to predict how many people would follow, but did assume it would go viral. It went from 0 games to over 500 in it's first day, with it of course reaching 742 games right now, and many more creators pitching their games into the submissions thread. I think it is paused as there is further discussion on if free content is to be part of the package https://twitter.com/moonscript/status/1269416380765310976

          • @Iwakura: Pagination is a feature. It took effort to make it non-searchable (CTRL+F is what I'm talking about). What I'm talking about takes no effort at all. They actively made it a non-accessible list is my point. Accessibility is always needed. If you're saying there's no demand, that's not true either. If I'm bothered by it, so is someone else.

        • You can revoke your neg, but thats it. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/542914/votes

      That itch.io for you.

There are constantly games for free there and it is ALWAYS a pain adding them to your account one at a time. I can't imagine paying for them and having to multi tab and go through each one. Also, many games in this bundle were free not that long ago but I guess that's how it works…

There is a Carly Rae Jepsen TTRPG in this bundle… this might be my favourite bundle ever.

  • +3

This bundle has just passed 135,000 units sold - $1.6US million dollars worth - which I think makes it one of the most successful games bundles of all time, on a par with the early humble bundles, as I read it, according to wikipedia.
Ofcourse, it is only a bundle - nothing compares to the sales of individual popular games - Minecraft has the record with selling 200 million copies.
But it is still sort of neat to see something be quite this successful.

    • +1

The best humble bundles made $5,000,000+. It'd be cool if it comes close to that. It's definitely a big deal for itch.io

  • +5

Get it if you want to support the cause, but itch.io games for the most part tend to be trashy little games or unfinished games or games that used to be free or free browser games etc. etc.

You might find something decent in hundreds and it's probably worth it if you have your eye on some of them, but again there are thousands of good games that are already free all the time. So get it if you want to donate money but not because you think it's a bargain as itch.io is full of junk and it's also a pain to add each game to your account each time. (The site has been a navigational mess for years)

    • Itch.io lacks reviews and ranking. On Steam you see "mostly positive", then scroll down to see what people don't like about the game. So many of us end up searching for the same game on steam or metacritic to get any idea if they are worth playing.

  • This has hit the 1000 game mark now. And looks like it'll keep increasing.

  • 1000+ games now! Bundle is Updated!

  • Just a quick question:

If you buy the bundle, are there any keys to redeem for any games? Just asking as I would like to give games to friends if I buy the bundle. I know I could just download them but would prefer to give them keys.

    • Please note: No Steam (or other external keys) will be given for bundle purchases. Only direct downloads will be available on the itch.io page.

      • I did not mean Steam keys but keys for itch.io (which would not be external keys).

        • You can send someone a link to claim the whole bundle but not individual games in it

          • @mobbahobba: Thanks. That's what I wanted to know. Pity there are no individual keys.

            • @Lysander: I think you can link to your personal download page for a given game, but you can't gift a game from a bundle you've bought, iiuc.

Bundle ends in 7 hours! Be a part of history - the most successful bundle in world history! Now has sold $7.6US millon worth, contains 1704 games, and has sold 750,000 copies. A lot of really good games were added after the start, as Devs jumped on board.
