VFM PC Speakers

Was just looking at some budget fixed PC speaker (2.0 or 2.1) setups, found that Edifier was a good VFM brand. Unfortunate part is I'm using a top end headphone (Focal Clear) so its hard to guage if using speakers will be going backwards, any thoughts on good value for money setups? Don't want to blast the sound, or wake up the neighbours. Just bang for the buck for watching movies, youtube, games.

  • If you are after value 2.1 the Swan M20W $262 (stock available in NSW)
(Issues: on & off switch is on the subwoofer, so it can be difficult to access depending on placement.)

If you are something compact & cheap maybe the Edifier G2000 $99.

(Issues: there was a issue with USB input playback which is fixable with a firmware update.)

Swan M20W is probably more bang for your buck, and you will likely benefit from the subwoofer for movies.

If you are short on space & want to play it safe with others in terms of sound pollution maybe the Edifier is a better choice.

  • At this point I'm using a Anker Soundcore Motion+ (bought in USA, its not available here) as sort of a soundbar, and my headphones, so yeah got a lack of space for large bookshelf speakers.

    • Well I think the small Left & Right speakers on the Swan’s are similar in size to the Edifier G2000.
So if you want a subwoofer get the Swan’s, otherwise get the Edifier’s.
I have watched / read some reviews on the Edifier’s, they are small but seem to pack plenty of punch.

Also just posted a forum post about a eBay listing I just found for a 2.1 System. If you are local maybe you can check it out. Buyer has good feedback but still a little suspicious if it is for real.

  • If you're using Focal Clears you probably want studio monitors. As above if you really want to get an upgrade you're probably going to want a 2.1 system. I don't think you're going to find a budget setup that's going to have anywhere near the clarity of the Clears. Consider getting something like a Buttkicker. Virtually silent subwoofer to add another dimension to movies etc but no chance of waking the neighbours.

    • Yeah having Focal Clears is actually a drawback in this case as I’m going to compare every speaker with it, and it’s on totally different level as far as headphones go.

  • I use Presonus Eris 3.5 for my PC and they're excellent. I don't think any speakers will be better than a quality pair of headphones though. The Eris 3.5 sound like just the speakers you're after, they're very well priced too.

  • How about the Logitech g560? Good feedback ?
