Which Day of The Week Is The Quietest to Shop at The Supermarket?

With the recent global issue we have faced and are still dealing with at the moment, shopping at the supermarkets can be super busy and in times frustrating so I would prefer to shop when it is quieter. Which day of the week does everyone think is the most quietest to do the grocery shopping?

This poll seems useless without times.

Weekday days have old slow aisle walkers.

Weekend days are the worst for prams and kids running around, I did that once and switched to late night weekdays ever since. I can go in and walk the aisles with much less people in my way.

Late nights can be terrible due to aisles being blocked by staff doing online order collections and/or grocery loads left out for the shelf-stackers. And if it's a Tuesday night they remove all the specials tickets in preparation for the next day so you can't tell what's discounted.

Check your local against Google maps and it will tell you

A simple Google search is literally more useful than a poll from from internet users all over Australia

  • Went to my local Coles last night(Sunday) and it was dead quiet.

    • yes, sunday just before they close usually very quiet.

Weekend night (after 6pm) is the only answer you need.

The only problem is that fruit and veg will either not be fresh or already put away.

I hate shopping on Tuesday nights, as it's when they swap the catalogue specials, rip down sale prices etc. Since I don't go in with a list, I go off what I see, and then I'm blind lol

Look up your local supermarket(s) on Google and see what it says the busiest times are.

Thursday 8pm is really nice, everythings still open with just the right amount of people

  • Often I find that shopping around 12-1pm is quieter, as peeps are off having lunch…

  • Worked in a department store, but Mondays were pretty dead

a lot of employees on salary are paid mid month but there are also wages paid fortnightly.

I go after morning school drop off mainly for convenience and reduced car usage.
Probably not THE quietest, but quiet enough regardless of which day.
Gave me the sh!ts during panic buying because there were masses trying to get stuff at the same time

True bargainers only visit stores at price-mark-down time, regardless of business.

the price-mark-down time seems a bit random.

Since starting to work from home, I've been ducking out mid-afternoon (around 1:30pm) on a Tuesday/Wednesday in my lunch break to do the grocery shopping which is reasonably quiet.

Long time ago now, but I used to work at a supermarket myself and while you could never really tell, earlier in the week from 7pm onwards it started to quieten down, however each day got busier as the week progressed.

Saturday was (and still is for me) an absolute no go, early Sunday morning or shortly before close isn't too bad - though please don't stay past closing time. Most staff are scheduled to finish right on closing time (at my store anynway), and despite plenty of people saying they'll stay as long as they want because their business pays staff wages, these staff would finish up and there'd be loooooong lines to end the day.

Quietness is irrelevant to me, I want to go when everything is discounted. The other day I walked out with $2.40 roast chooks and 90c Chicken pho and laksa bowls from Coles.

    • Takes a strong stomach to get through one of those chooks that's been in the roaster all day. I made that mistake once and paid for it.

  • If it's busy when you go, it's probably because you are more comfortable going out at the same time as everyone else.
If you want to go when it is quiet, it might feel like an inconvenient time for you and not seem worth it.

I always like going late at night, around 9 or 10pm, so crowds have never been an issue.
Every now and then I get dragged to the shops in the morning, and the combo of miserable timing and crowds makes it a double pain.

  • 7am monday morning is the way to go

  • I find Friday evening (around 7pm) at our local Aldi in to be consistently quiet.
