I know nothing of gaming laptops, however, for that price I would be pushing for 16gb ram as a minimum.

MSI Alpha 15 for $1500 is option, I just got it.

For $1800 you can either push for better GPU like 2060, or for 1650Ti for example but with better features like screen/kb/cooling

I got an Asus fx505dt last year for $1000. It meets all your requirements.
The 2020 model is called the Asus TUF A15

They are budget models though. I think mine is pretty good, but there were plenty of mid-range options in your budget even back then. You should be tripping over them everywhere you look.
    You did look, right?

    • Yeah I’ve done a lot of research, just need help on choosing something

      • Choose based on what though? Your criteria are pretty low.
If you've done research and found a few options that match what you've asked for, why haven't you bought one already?

        • Haven’t bought one yet cause of the release of the new amd processors and then Lenovo legion 5i with amd and so on.

        • Oh yeah and criteria is low cause the laptop may have a feature which is low but may have another which makes up for it

  • ASUS TUF A15 if you don't mind a below average inbuilt screen, G15 if you want a decent screen (although a tad expenno).

    • Can’t find Australian places that sell the G15?

    • Are you talking about the Strix?

      • sorry G14.

Check out the Metabox brand. They are Perth based and build custom Seagar/Clevo based gaming laptops. The Alpha-X range would probably be closest to what you are after (I am writing this on one now). You can customize them however you want.
Don't bother getting any more than 16GB RAM, 8 could be fine too depending on what you are playing.

    • +1 for Metabox. Got one that hasn't skipped a beat

    • I am also looking at Metabox and was about order an Alpha-X. However, the staff over the phone I have spoken with said that there would be an EOFY sale and hence I have put on hold for now.

  • I would recommend to spend another $158AUD and buy a Dell G5 SE

    Dell G5 SE
    $1,958.00
    GPU: 5600m
    CPU: 4800H
    Input lag: 5ms
Refresh rate and colour: 144hz 108% sRGB
    RAM: 2x8 DDR4 3200Mhz
    Weight: 2.5kg
    WiFi 6
    Storage: 512GB PCI NVMe

When talking to the people at Dell chat, ask for a disccount or tell them you're a student. They tend to give at least 10% discount.

  • Thanks a lot for all the suggestions, having a deeper look at them.

Please let us know what you decided to buy. I'm looking for a gaming laptop with similar spec and budget. Ty.

      Will do!

    • Went with a completely different option. Ended up going a lot over budget and got the Alienware M15 R3 for $2500 after great discounts. $3199 plus Dells EOFY sale 15% off = $2719
      Plus honey coupon = $2528

      Anyway I think it’s a Great deal.

      • And you also are supposed to get $136 cash back
