$250 Phone for Teenager

I have an early teen, and his hand me down phone of mine has died. Looking for something up to around $250, happy to grey import.

Currently considering the Redmi Note 9. Usage would be watching videos, listenning to music, and gaming. I understand the Note 9 is note incredible for gaming, but realistically… would anything be at that price point?

Gaming and $250 budget is pushing it.

      Depends what game

Haha, gaming on a phone. Good one

  • Depends on how much he wants to contribute.

  • If you're willing to stretch the budget to $399 I can highly recommend the LG V30+. It's a great phone and runs every game easily. OLED screen, 10 hour battery and comes with a hi-fi DAC which makes it one of the best phones for music. Also you can buy it from JB so no issue with grey imports or warranty.

    Thanks all.

Unfortunately it’s pretty much $250. Major gaming is probably off the table

      Here's an idea: ask him.

If he would prefer a better phone albeit used? -or a worse phone but new.
Which ecosystem he likes better (iOS vs Android)?
What size he would prefer (Small, Medium, Large, XL)?
      How much storage he needs?
Which attribute he would prefer to compromise on (camera, or display, or processor)?

…depending on those questions/answers, you can really narrow things down.

IPhone 6s second hand on eBay.

& spend the left over change on a rubber case.

    • +1, 6s's are still being supported for iOS14 even too so it should be a pretty solid device

  • What do they want? Most kids i know have iPhones

  • Bought my daughter the TCL Plex on the last sale. Even came with some pretty nice headphones! I still can't believe it was so inexpensive…

    • Great deal on a decent phone. Not sure if they can wait on that deal to return, if ever?
