Hisense 58S5 Series 5 58" 4K Ultra HD LED Smart TV - for $795.00

Hi everyone

Another confused bloke trying to choose between cheap TVs

Hisense 58S5 Series 5 58" 4K Ultra HD LED Smart TV - $795.00 is it worth it?
I am a First time tv buyer, no xbox or ps, mostly will be using it for Netflix, amazon prime and YouTube may be kayo or roku.
I need this to last long for at least 3 years.
I know audio is bit poor but I will be getting a sound bar anyway.
I have already upped my budget from 500 to 800 now so definitely not going above this plus I am a big fan of big screen.

Please let me know your thoughts or if anyone using this unit at the moment a feedback would be helpful.

cheers

  • Honestly I like my Hisense, my parents have one and my bro has one and they've all (3 of them) lasted more then 3 years fairly easily, personally I'd be expecting more years out of a tv then that.

I feel the "Smart" part is average, Netflix works great for me, youtube is alright (it has those specific buttons), the rest don't really get updated enough though so I do wonder whether I'd need to plug something else in at some point.

My dislikes is the AV port uses a weird 3.5mm jack thing, I'd rather it just had a normal one as I lost the cable. Remote is pretty average as well, they're not all that fancy or great but it does its job.

  • At least its not Soniq or tcl

    • +1

I wouldn't put those two in the same bucket, on one hand you have the unreliable sub par brand of Soniq and on the other hand you have the reliable, great value for money TCL which tbh out does Hisense for value for money and longevity any day.

  • I have a hisense. 55inch. Bought it 4 years ago and I’ve been loving it. No issues whatsoever and smart functions work flawlessly. It has performed better than our Sony which was twice the price.

  • 58" QLED android tv in aldi in a week or two. Sounds similar plus aldis returns policy.

    • I would not recommend this option. I love Aldi but would not buy their TVs again (nor Kogan) - they are cheap but a little more $$$ gets you a better experience for something that will last years. Hisense is a great mid-point option and where I landed having had a number of low end and high end screens over the years.

      • Good to know! I bought a TCL 55P8M a couple of months ago and have been happy, android TV on a quad core runs ok, maybe the Kogan/FFalcn/Aldi are dual core?
