AliExpress - Refund for faulty product

I bought an SD player from AliExpress that intermittantly fails and is basically unuseable. I want a full refund but realise that I may be struggling to get this after reading some stories regarding refunds and AliExpress.

I found some ideas from someone on reddit.com as below:

Make a video of your problem or, if you can't, take detailed pictures.

Open a dispute

Ask for the full amount. Mark it as I do not want to ship it back

The seller most likely will ask you to drop the dispute so he can refund you. Do not do it and ask for a refund first. When you drop a dispute you cannot reopen it so when you open one be prepared to go all the way thru with it

If he asks you to ship it back ask him to pay. If he doesn't then wait and escalate the dispute. Usually he will return you the money and ask you for a good review. Give a truthful review.

If it goes to Aliexpress to decide, they most likely will go in your favor.

The most important part is making your case with pictures and videos. Take screenshots of the reviews of people with the same problem to back you up. Also, take screenshots of your messages with the seller showing that he basically wanted you to pay for his mistake.

This seems like good comprehensive advice but I'm not sure AliExpress will give me a full refund if it ends up going to them to make a judgement?
Any other thoughts or ideas I can do to maximise my chances of a full refund?

Thanks

  • Actually, all the problems buying from AliExpress right now are curing my online shopping addiction.

  • +1

How much was this player? How much time are you happy to waste in the hope of getting a refund?

  • Keep at it. If you persist you will succeed. My only issue with their process is the extremely long time it takes for a resolution.

  • I have a gotten refunds 3x from the Aliexpress marketplace. Two of these were from items that never arrived. This was sometime in February. Once sufficient time has passed since the seller's estimated date of arrival, they were more than amenable to refunding the monies paid.

The other refund for a tablet case that was entirely different from dimensions than what was described. The seller even tried to say that some variation was to be expected but I countered with the fact that a 25% variation in something as small as a tablet case would render it unusable for it's intended purpose. Anyway, they refunded promptly after that and didn't bother having me send it back.

For all three incidents, I raised the disputes with the sellers themselves. I didn't experience any huge game breaking issues with the process.

  • They seem to no longer refund 100%, I got only 20% last time. They seem to make the buyer bear the shipping costs

  • I've had some issues with ali express. When they've found in my favour they didn't refund me completely. Another time, I wasn't even refunded at all.

It's disappointing but given the price, I'm okay. I generally only buy from stores with large order history and positive feedback.
