Is It Safe to Sell on Gumtree and Receive Payment via Payid?

As per title, selling a phone on Gumtree and have seen plenty of posts on here about being scammed when selling something.

Is this a safe way to receive payment? What are the safest ways? Sounds like PayPal isn't as they can dispute the charge.
Cash would obviously be preferred so interested to here what peoples thoughts on PayID is (assuming they want it posted).
Thanks

  • There is not much complete details about how PayID works and what are their tolerance thresholds, so if you REALLY want to post an item, a good-old-fashion bank transfer only, then waiting for it to clear and then waiting another 1-2 days should to the trick.

A friend paid me through PayID once, but we still had to wait 24 hours for me to receive the money because their bank said "you are sending money to a new recipient, for security purposes bla bla bla the payment will be withheld."

  • Just do cash. Payid is not always instant especially for the first transfer between two parties for a significant amount.

  • You could try Beem It. That's instant.

  • Cash payment.

  • Selling a phone, you need to be very careful. One of the most scammed items. Desk, light fitting ok, but a phone is just risky, take cash and be careful where they want to meet for exchange.

Should be fine if you ensure you receive the funds into your account (by logging into your account, not trusting a screenshot they send you or something) and preferably transfer it into another account or withdrawing it, before you post the phone.

Can you ask them to post cash to you in a registered letter?
Personally I wouldn't buy a phone remotely. As a seller I would wait till the funds clear and successfully moved to another bank before posting it with tracking and signature.

      Registered post doesn’t cover cash

  • Cash ffs

  • I sold a car with a payID transaction. But it was done in person, with signed transfer papers, and I have a copy of the buyer's driver's licence.
