                    • @Italkdigital: No worries, and yeah, the Fetch TV is excellent bang for buck.

I did some testing a few years ago, and found you can access the subscription channels and Movie Box on a second (multiroom) box from a separate location / address / network, but couldn't playback recordings:

                      https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9q6yp423?p=58#r1158

Are you saying you can playback recordings now?

Also, FTA streaming was not available at the time, so will be interesting to see if that works.

              • @kirt: Thatโ€™s what I understood the process to be. Connect mighty to antenna and you can watch from mini with no antenna connection (streamed from the mighty). All boxes need to be on the same account. Thanks @Italkdigital for testing it out anyway.

Edit: replied before reading other comments. Good to see @Italkdigital you got it sorted out.

Now need to buy 2 minis before the mighty arrives so I have them ready for connection.

  • Anyone connects their Optus Fetch TV box to Projector? I connect my Optus Fetch TV box to Viewsonic 4K projector. No video, no audio. Then I connect it to the projector through a HDMI audio extractor which split the video to the projector and the digital audio to an old Onkyo AV amp. The result is 4k video through projector and 5.1 audio via AV amp.
The problem is it is not a sure thing. Every now and then, Fetch TV box plays up and I have NO picture and No sound.
Any idea what is going wrong?

    • Have you tried to test if the Fetch box is actually the problem?

Maybe test the Fetch box first directly to a TV through HDMI to see if it's the Fetch box

Anyway basically you need to break down what device is causing the fault the HDMI cable that comes with the Fetch box is of high quality for 4K

EDIT: Whoops ok your projector is 4K ahh could be the refresh rate frequency, it's under settings/Audio & Video/Advanced and there is video resolution settings
Basically piss off the splitter, switch off any Auto settings under Video and advance
Force video settings to what your projector requires i.e 4K and important refresh rate, there are also audio settings
My educated guess the problem is between the splitter to projector or Fetch to splitter why best
1/ piss off the splitter and getting it working directly Fetch to projector
2/ issue miss match with refresh rate frequency and you can't set that in the splitter

Another feature no ones mentioned as you would do with a Chromecast,.. you can for example cast a YouTube video your watching on your mobile and continue watching the YouTube video on your fetch Mighty box,.. only casts with whatever streaming apps are installed on the Fetch box,.. (well makes it easier to navigate YouTube videos on your mobile like searching then cast the YouTube video on your fetch) though not sure about Catch up TV like iview etc anyone know or tried?

Another feature Fetch has is Bluetooth built in.. (in sound settings of Fetch box) so you can Bluetooth play sound/music from your mobile/tablet etc to the Fetch box and of course listen to music through your TV or separate speakers connected to the Fetch box

Also vice versa hookup Bluetooth headphones/speakers to the Fetch box and listen to what is playing on the Fetch box, great while everyones sleeping through headphones

Those trying to hack an Optus/ISP box well I've tried everything and found it's impossible, so warning don't buy one off ebay/Gumtree,. unless your after an expensive 1TB harddrive
Mind you sellers are selling these on eBay and playing ignorant with there description, I'm sure these sellers know they can't be unlocked and some sell at very high ridiculous prices

Also especially those finding issues with there current Fetch Mighty box harddrive, ive tried you can actually clone the 1TB hard drive with a brand new 1TB harddive and the brand new clone 1TB harddrive will work as a replacement, (I used one of those harddrive clone harddrive boxes to clone)

I tried the same with a bigger 2TB hard drive problem is my clone box will only clone 1TB in the 2TB harddrive, I formatted the other 1 TB partition of the 2 TB HD but the Fetch box won't recognise it, I also tried to expand the first 1TB partition but since it's a weird type partition windows10 won't let me expand/stretch it to 2TBs, the Fetch boxes will only recognises the first 1TB partition of a bigger harddrive and also it's not your normal type partition like NTFS or FAT32 etc to expand/stretch with Windows10, so anyone by chance succeeded to place a bigger harddrive successfully working into the Fecth Mighty? ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ‘

Also if you already have a mini Fetch box and decide to purchase a Mighty for another room, from your mini you can control setting recordings from your mini to your mighty, so actually you don't need two mighty boxes a mini and a Mighty will do the same as two Mighty boxes (But of course all recordings are on the one 1TB Mighty box not 2x 1TB Mighty boxes)

Note too: the Fetch mobile app well actually your Fetch account will only allow 3x Fetch boxes to be added to one account so you can't add a fourth Fetch box too one account, I have 2x Mightys and 1x Mini to one account, I guess you'll need another second account for a 4th Fetch box

A quirk I came acrosss as you can share recordings from one Fetch Mighty Box to another Fetch boxs over a WiFi connection well cause there on the same one account funny same works if one of those Fetch boxes is at another house/address location, Yupz I tried it and works so yes you can share one account/3 Fetch boxes between family and friends and of course share any recordings and also subscriptions you might have on that one account,.. same as sharing one Netflix account as an example between family and friends

Shame Fetch doesn't allow more then 3x Fetch boxes one the one account

Hope was I helpful, Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ‘

    • Excellent run down there and answered some of my "I wonder if" questions. You make me want to buy one regardless of having too many multimedia appliances already (most to just play with). Better stay off the booze tonight otherwise I will get itchy fingers!

Hard Drive upgrade = Have you tried extend the partition where recordings are stored "after" cloning using a third party app? Win 10 itself wont be able to do that? It
is however good to hear that cloning 1TB to another is possible as some PVRs have a HDD lock that cross checks with the units Bios that prevents easy swap outs. Panasonic PVRs come to mind.

      • That's something I haven't tried extending the XFS format from 1TB to fill the 2TB harddrive to one 2TB partition, well I'm sure I looked for specialised software to do that or what software I found wouldn't work

Also I tried different 1TB brand drives and it worked, actually one was a 7200rpm western digital 1TB drive which is faster then the original 5400rpm Fetch 1TB drive (I didn't see any speed use differences within the Fetch box) but I think these 5400rpm drives are designed to be long lasting in a PVR (I think WD green drives) or maybe there cheaper and do the job why there in the Fetch box, I actually even tried a 1TB laptop drive and it worked, be also interesting to try a 1TB SSD drive though I don't think the speed might make any big worth while difference considering the price of the SSD drive

Love to know if your successful getting a 2TB drive working in a Fetch Mighty Box and do let us know how or what software is needed to extend an XFS format (as I'll try myself), the cloning device I used is a hardware cloning docking device, something like this but cheaper, it works also for SSDs and MVME drives (in an SSD case) perfectly and fast

The ChromeCast feature is called Discovery and Launch (DIAL), and is only for YouTube and Netflix - still handy though:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discovery_and_Launch

      • Interesting. One learns something new every day :-)

    • Great write up. Based on some preliminary research today, my plan is to clone the original fetch HDD to another 1TB HDD sector by sector, so I have a usable backup (which I will use for testing). After testing the cloned drive to make sure it actually works, I'll clone it again to a 2TB HDD. This write up explains the fetch TV HDD structure. It seems to be XFS, so will try extending the 2TB drive on Ubuntu and see what happens. My only thought would be is if Fetch FW somehow restricts use to the original drive only at boot, it may not work.

      • That's it XFS format, was a while when I messed around with one of my Mighty fetch boxes, my guess how the firmware is written will limit it will work, well it can't see 2 partitions by my tests but hopefully it will recognise 1x larger 2x TB XFS format partition ๐Ÿ‘

So mention again and clearlify when I said one Fetch box can see another Fetch Mighty Box TV recordings when those 2x Fetch boxes are at 2x different physical addresses locations,.. Yupz your seeing the other Fetch boxes TV recordings over the internet not just over WiFi when locally, it was a while when I did it might try it again when I'm at my cousins place (with my mini Fetch) to confirm again it worked, unless someone else has already tried this and can confirm also?

      • Have a feeling one reason why 2TB XFS partition won't work, the firmware of the Fetch Mighty Box allocates 200GB for video on demand and 800GB for recordings, you can see this under storage in the settings tab and these storage allocations can't be changed, it's one of my pet hates as 200GB is a waste for Video on demand

Mind you too that hardware docking clone device I used clones it perfectly 1 to 1 as original partition, not sure how software cloning would go

But you won't know for sure till you try ๐Ÿ‘

Just my opinion of these Fetch boxes as a PVR, I do have to admit they can have a rare issue were suddenly the Fetch boxes will lag, example you'll press forward, then try to change channels and do more actions over the remote and nothing happens, the Fetch boxs is lagging, wait a while your actions might happen or you'll end up sick of waiting and only option to pull power cord out to reboot it, (annoying as you've just stopped all your current recordings) I have to admit it is rare issue and honestly it's been months since this has happened since the last update on my Mighty Fetch box
(Happens on both retail and ISP boxes)

Those that mentioned about were a TV recording either starts too late or stops recording too early, I found it's actually better to not add extension times to recordings, say add 5 minutes extra to record early especially the case when you have a lot of over lapping recordings from different channels around the same time slots, I found this issue almost doesn't happen at all if you leave the recording times as they are by the TV channel, but of course just one short recording really can piss anyone off especially if your watching a 2 hour movie and miss the whole fkn ending, that's technology sucking lolz

Last thing I find well wish Fetch could fix or add in firmware is if your watching a 4K movie (off USB stick/USB Harddrive) with multi audio languages embedded in the movie there isn't the option too change too different audio languages well Fetch will default to the first audio language and some of my 4K movies have English as the 2nd audio language, I don't even see the option on the remote too change audio language so I guess the feature isn't built into the Fetch box or maybe I'm missing something?

Oh Fetch will play off a NTFS USB or NTFS Hard drive formats so you can collect larger then 4GB 4K movies onto a NTFS drive and play it off the Fetch box ๐Ÿ‘

(So overall I think these Fetch boxes are great PVRs overall, though I admit I've never have paid over $250 for one new and I think $499 is too rich for a new one, these Mighty/Mini Fetch boxes have been around for years and I wish they could offer the Mighty with a bigger harddrive say 2TBs or more, certainly worth paying $299 for a new Mighty box,…. also Fetch eBay sell these reconditioned, last I seen for $249 maybe less for a Fetch Mighty and these reconditioned boxes come with 2 years warranty)

Last one those like me, I only have (no home fixed internet) 4G internet from my Samsung Note 9 mobile (optus simcard) or my 4G portable modem (optus simcard), Fetch works perfectly wifi hot spotting off both my 4G devices through WiFi (25-50Mbps speeds at home),

Actually few of my neighbors have Telstra Air (speed about 1.5Mpbs) and Fetch works fine streaming at that speed, trick,.. you can't hook on Telstra Air from Fetch box first but what you do first is you hook on Telstra Air from your mobile and stay connected and then hook Fetch onto Telstra Air second, your mobile initiates the connection
(edit: I have one off those cheap $35 WiFi boosters in my garage to boost the neighbors Telstra Air signals around my home)

(Will test my new data Telstra SIM when it speed caps at 1.5Mbps though should work going by my above tests with Telstra Air)

Hope that was an ozbargain post,.. yes tight, I love bargains ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ‘

  • Oh one pet hate is in storage settings

Video on demand has set (fixed) space of 200gb storage of the 1TB Hard drive, well I wish that size could be changed by us the user manually to a lower size and let us give more hard drive space for recordings (I.e. for TV and streaming recordings)

It's always 0GB used so not even sure what it is for? but I'm guessing it's for when you purchase a movie (of Fetch paid movie menu) and that movie gets downloaded and stored in your hardrive so you can watch it again later (I don't pay for movies full stop) it's a waste off 200gb of the 1TB drive for me

I don't think anyone's mentioned this yes you can pay from $6 per month for set subscription packages but you also can just pay $1 a month for there movie package (if your just into movies), this if I remember is free for ISP users of the Fetch box

    • I believe the $1 for movies is just for preselected (by them) choice of 30 movies. These change each month.

  • After watching a few reviews online I bit the bullet and ordered the fetch mighty. Should be a good replacement for my 10 year old Panasonic DVR which only has a 250GB HDD (which Iโ€™ll keep anyway because itโ€™s a DVD recorder as well, never know when I might need it). Iโ€™ll probably subscribe to the movie box for $1 per month for the movies.

Now to find a fetch mini (which Iโ€™ll need 2 off) for a decent price. Will probably go to JB and see what deal they can do for 2, then use discounted gift cards.

    Thanks OP.

    • On occasion JB have refurbished ones fairly cheap, from memory I think I got a refurb model from Fetch Ebay site as well, just like brand new but discounted, and after all, isn't that why we are OzBargainers, for the cheapest price?

Fetch TV are on eBay they sell the Mini, Mighty reconditioned and brand new Fetch remotes, all remotes even from older Fetch boxes work on any Fetch boxes, I actually kept one of the older remotes as has more buttons on it spread over the remote, the newer ones are more compact with less buttons but still does everything as previous older remotes

Fetch TV selling the Mini reconditioned for $129 on eBay including postage, includes 2 years warranty (saving of $40 as Mini RRP is $169)
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/312594153551

I think I got my retail Mini secondhand of eBay for $70 i think, so have too say good luck finding a retail version for that price (dare I say make sure your buying a retail version of eBay)

Edit: eBay Fetch TV sell the refurb Mighty for $299 wonder if you could message them to do a better price since there here new for $299 i might try myself ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคช

Note: they state they are professionally refurbished with 2 years warranty

I reckon most Fetch boxs returns would be from customers who expected more when paying $499 for a Mighty or couldn't figure out how to use it, or the boxes had little quirks which pissed off the customer or expected more out of it like free Stan and Netflix subscription since the apps are installed in it, have too admit $499 is to expensive to pay for a Mighty, well I wouldn't pay that much for one

  • Is this for the gen 4 (M616T) or gen 3?

    • The tax invoice has M616TNEW, so itโ€™s a new gen 4 model.

      • I'm sure we'll here is link from Fetch TV website the Mini and Mighty are gen3 boxes unless there is an upgrade version of gen3 Mini and Mighty which are gen4s? But what new features would a gen4 have? over gen3 Mighty or Mini
        https://fetchtv.com.au/packages/compare
Scroll to the bottom, under (things to know) states ""to confirm whether you are subscribing to receive a Mini, Mighty or a Gen 2 box""

Note: from above link these Mightys have 4 tuners but can record up to 6 shows at once, as 1 tuner can be used too record 2 shows off the same channel I.e. channel 9 so 9 Go and 9 Gem, why I find the Mighty impressive as a PVR cause of the 4 tuners

        • Well itโ€™s a M616T box whatever generation that is. Actually there is no mention of gen 4 anywhere, just gen 2 or mighty. So itโ€™s probably a gen 3.

          • @Jono05: Received my Mighty M616T Today, Exactly the same as the one I purchased in December 2017 except for the newer remote with an Extra two buttons for netflix and Apps.

@error619: What's that saying "don't mess around with something that works"

Killed one of My Mighty boxes trying to move it from one Fetch account too another new account I created

Anyway emailed/messaged retail FETCH TV with my issue, dare I say I followed all prompts to the letter deactivating firstly from one account (that was successful) then rebooting Fetch box hopefully too get too activation screen too enter new activation code from new account, but it's in loop with a connection error, can't get passed this connection error screen even though I've tried different methods of internet connection, error screen actually states connection is successful importantly to the Fetch server is ok

My question is,.. will I get charged to fix it since it's out off warranty

Wow gonna have too use my TV tuner which suxs ๐Ÿ˜ญ

              • @Italkdigital: Hahahaha. All in the name of "As a matter of interest, I wonder if I try his will it work…..". Been there done that (and still do). That's the fun and frustration of tinkering. When you work it out, you will then have a sense of satisfaction. Just make sure you take notes for the next one :-)

                • @Borg: Yupz that's what it was, found a laptop I didn't realise I had now seeing if I can put an SSD into it and give it life

Will post an interesting forum for the Fetch boxes I found while trying to find solutions to fix my self, will post at the end of this thread ๐Ÿ‘

              • @Italkdigital: I had a similar issue when trying to reset a secondhand Mighty. Emailed to Fetch and they sorted it out online and sent me a new activation code etc. Was pretty good response from them, considering it's an old secondhand unit!

                • @nafe: Thanks,.. just wondering if your issue is exactly like mine? Mine from the setup connection page says it's connected too the internet perfectly then automatically goes back too the first error connection page issue, every attempt doing the same keeps loooping

Anyway I reckon it's there end too so hope they do the same for me as you,.. though I haven't heard back from them for 2x days

I guess the pandemic might be slowing them down

                  • @Italkdigital: I think they took a day or two to get back to me, but that was last year and non-Covid :)
From memory mine was not connecting online, and they did a reset at their end and was all sorted.

            • +1

@error619: Got my tracking number yesterday (Monday). So it should arrive in the next day or two.

I think the new remote looks better so thatโ€™s good.

Came across a great forum site titled
"Fetch Mighty & Mini bugs and UI fixes"

Not sure if Fetch TV takes suggestions from this site but those into learning everything and have suggestions to improve the UI of there Fetch boxes

    Well this is the site,….
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9w05x0k3?p=65#bottom

Also in my endeavors to fix my self my Fetch Mighty is a link below is a PDF download which looks like a manual Fetch TV agents use too diagnose faults for Fetch boxes to us owners of Fetch boxes
    https://bit.ly/2N2foL7

    Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

  • Everyone I tried what I posted a while back that is too see if multiroom features will work between Mini and Mighty at 2x different locations i.e. different houses, different inrernet connections

Answer is yes yes (Though need further testing) it will work though my internet is slow on upload end so loading recordings would take forever then fail out but for sure I can see all my Mighty recordings from my Mini and those that just started recordingand I can click too play them

Same with using Multiroom with Mini without an antenna and grab FTA signal from Mighty with an antenna, all channels are listed and able too click the channels in EPG but they also would take forever and fail

Multiroom settings also shows my Mini paired to my Mighty

Now was trying this with the Mini at my cousins place another suburb in Melbourne and just realised anyone can test this from their home if by chance you have another internet provider at home like hot-spotting your Mini to your 4G mobile device 4G data as an example while your Migthy is through your home fixed broadband, that's the same deal like having Fetch boxes at 2x different location places

Do let us know if you try it and succeed actually playing recordings or channels over the internet

My upload speed (my place) was below 5 Mbps but my download speed (my cousins place) was over 250 Mbps both with seperate Optus simcard 4G, I wish over 250 Mbps was at my place lol

Well all above would be a great way too share with Family and Friends, recordings and dare I say subscriptions

    Enjoy ๐Ÿ‘

Ordered on Saturday, arrived on Tuesday before midday. Now thatโ€™s good service. I know what Iโ€™m doing this weekend.

  • just verifying, these are brand new units right? i can't see anywhere on the page it actually states that its new or if its refurbished

    • They are brand new units. I would assume if they were refurbished it would specify that.

  • I have an Optus supplied fetch mini. Can I stream recordings from this OEM Mighty to my Optus mini?

    • No, retail and ISP units cannot be on the same account.

      • Thanks for your reply. I have just checked on my Optus mini. It recognised my retail Mighty under the tab "My Media Hub". So I can access my recordings from my mini.

        • Bonus. I thought that I read that it couldn't be done.

          • @Jono05: It can be done. I have just tested it. As long as they are both on the same network. They come up as media players .
