Recommendation: Want to Buy Holden Craptiva LTZ 2018 - Used - What Should I Pay for It ?

Note:

Yes its Holden Captiva (lemon) i am talking about and I just need a Seven Seater for a 3-4 year for a cheap price (budget is tight) as we will be having our second baby and need another car.

Understading the below :

  1. Holden is leaveing austrlia and expecting no service after 3- 4 years. Based how the treat their dealers and customer.
  2. Current Climate - recession and COVID 19

I was looking at Carsales and 3-4 weeks back these cars were going for $13,999 advertise. dont know how much the dealer will reduce the price if i place an offer.

Note: Based on my check at carsales these were going between $13,999 to $18,999 atleast the one i was looking for.

I will greatly appreciate if the experts here suggest a price range i need to go for.

ok fiddy cents, my final offer

  • Would you consider a more reliable brand but a little older? As with most things, going for the initially cheaper option can end up costing more in the future.

    • I went this route looking for a 7-seater:

      • Ford Territory (cheap upfront but horrible economy)
      • Captiva (rebadged Daewoo, lemons)
      • Hyundai/Mazda/Isuzu offerings (too expensive upfront)

Leaving the Kia Sorento (a 2010 model) as the best option. Absolutely no issues with it, and even after 250,000km I'm averaging 7.5L/100km (on diesel).

I have no reservations in recommending this, and should I eventually upgrade I would definitely get one again.

      • been driving a 7 seater santa fe for 6 years now, cant complain, most likely get the newer model of this car when i need to change

  • Whoever it is should be paying you.
Something like a nissan pathfinder/dualis+2 or Toyota Kluger would do the job with far greater reliability.

Something something, Craptiva has euro spec reliability with average looks and build quality. Would not recommend

And yeah, unfortunately due to low trade in numbers as a result of fewer new cars being sold the second hand market has gone haywire with second hand prices ballooning out.

  • Did these things actually get any better over time? The early ones were pretty bad for reliability, but they’ve been making them for over 10 years.

Get a Kluger or an oddessy or maybe a Mazda.

    • Forgot Santa Fe and Sorrento.

  • these very [sic] going between $13,999 to $18,999…suggest a price range

You've already written what the price range is. Look at both dealer and private sales. You can offer slightly less than what is advertised. If you are completely new to haggling, bring someone more experienced with you, preferably someone with better English skills than yourself.

dont [sic] know how much the dealer will reduce the price if i [sic] place an offer.

No one can tell you in advance. There is no formula that needs to be followed. Try your luck with how much YOU want to pay and be prepared to walk away if your counter-offer isn't accepted. There are plenty of guides online.

  • ok, but why…

You have to pay for Craptivas?

  • Odyssey? Tarago? Carnival?

Not sure why you even need a 7 seater?

    • To seat 7 people.

      • Yes, however op has stated that they need a bigger car as they are having a second child. Unless op is polyamorous, he should now have a total of 4 persons in the vehicle.

        • Maybe OP intends to do some hard work. 3rd 4th 5th…. Bang bang bang.

          • @[Deactivated]: If he was lucky he could have triplets and get it all over and done with in one fell swoop.
