Toyota Landcruiser PRADO or anything else ?

Hi,

Few days ago, I posted another discussion (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/541109)about finding some luxury car deals.

To my dismay, I couldn't find much in luxury deals. There are not many discounts available or may be I didn't dig deep enough.

So, Like a tru Ozbargainer, I am thinking of playing safe and buy something which is a long time successful model and retains good re-sale value.

So, I am inclined to purchase Toyota Landcruiser Prado GXL with the premium interior. Premium interior means leather seats with Heated and cooled front seats and heated second row seats.

I think I will be able to purchase a brand new in metallic paint in Sydney for around 64 thousand dollars.

This price includes the front windows tinted and the plastic floor mats. Don't need to tint any other windows as they are already Black Privacy glass.

What do you think? Is the deal good enough or can I do better ?

On the other hand, I am still in the market for the entry level Luxury SUV's which are priced upto 80 to 90k driveaway BUT only if it is an outstanding bargain.

Just confused. Prado seems to be a safe course of action though but it's not a luxury vehicle, which I wanted to purchase for once.

Once again thanks in advance for your inputs.

What are you after in a vehicle? I wouldn't call a Prado a 'luxury' car at all. It's a very decent car, reliable, comptent offroad (majority of club are Prados), cheap maintenance and great for families and trips. The current generation have weak diesel engines though.

I have an FJ Cruiser (baby Prado that shares many parts and chassis) and love it to bits but may be small for some. It has the legendary 1GR-FE engine and retains it's value amazingly due to demand. Something to consider if you're solo/couple with no kids. Poor fuel economy though if that matters.

  • Have you looked at the ford Everest Titanium model? @70k its more luxurious than a Prado glx

    • The Prado is more luxurious due to poor build quality of the Everest. The ride on the 20's is silly and the head room is taken up by the sunroof.

LDV D90 or Haval H9 Ultra… or get one of each for $90k

If you are considering Luxury, SUV and up to $90k, have you considered something like the Lexus RX450h?

Do you actually need a 4wd? A prado is a proper 4wd, not a soccer mum bus.

Do you need proper offroad 4WD capability? I hired a Prado near Uluru for a few days and while the vehicle was overall good, I was dismayed by how much body roll it had around corners. This isn't really a vehicle suitable for urban driving. Off road is where it shines.

Would I call a Prado a luxury vehicle? Not really, even if it has leather seats.

  • q7 is like $85k in victoria, but it is an audi so you know the deal

Sure, resale is good but as already mentioned - do you NEED a real 4wd? Do you NEED an SUV? I've said it before, and an owner of multiple wagons - don't rule out a wagon for space and better driving/handling. Skoda Superb wagon, Passat Wagon, Outback (boot a bit smaller) Mazda 6 wagon all well and truly attainable in top spec for 65k

The diesel engine of a Prado is underwhelming but reliability is generally excellent. Interior is boring - but again, what are you after? If you don't need 7 seats, a real 4wd but are set on SUV, then the cx9 is a good option

  • I agree with you all, It INDEED not a luxury car, and I said this right on the onset in the beginning.

To me, luxury grade cars will be Audi Q7, BMW X5, other large SUV's in the brands like Lexus, Range Rover/Land Rover, even volvo etc.

But as I couldn't really come across any deal, That's why I was thinking of playing safe and buy a Prado.

What I wanted to know was that if there are any other good deals around in the above mentioned cars, my fellow Ozbargainers may point me towards that.

On the other hand if someone is privy to Prado Pricing, they can advise me if the price I mention above represents a good deal or not.

    Thanks again.

??? Buy a used luxury SUV, they depreciate like hell.

Put aside some cash for any repairs that might come up.

A Prado as a luxury vehicle is an exceptionally stupid choice.

Why do you want an SUV anyway? You'd save money and gain luxury by going for a different form factor. What do you actually need this vehicle to do?

This site is supposed to be about bargains, a NEW luxury car is the furthest thing from a bargain.

  • Don’t buy a prado unless you want to tow a decent sized load or get off the beaten track. You won’t enjoy the driving experience.

  • People on Pradopoint have gotten VXs for high 60s/low 70s.

Depends whether you value the additional items (18" alloys, auto lights/wipers, illuminated side steps, auto-dimming rear view mirror, cool box, 14 speakers, DAB, front sensors, blind spot/rear cross traffic, 360 camera) over the GXL at $5k or not.

Edit: agree with the above, if you don't plan on going off-road or towing, there are better cars than the Prado to cruise the city with.

  • Why don't you get the luxury deal of the century with a Infinity QX80? You get the WOW factor for 80K. And an impressive options list.
