Issue with PayPal, Thinking to Go to AFCA

My Paypal account was limited last year and I have sent them my documents to verify. However my middle name is missing in Paypal account and they are not verifying it for. I have been asking them to consider name change on my account or to verify my account using the documents neither of which they are willing to do. I have read some forums and was told that Paypal would close my account at the end of 6 months and allow me to withdraw my funds. However I never got any email and I tried speaking to their non-existent email only customer care many times. I really need the money which is over 1900$ and I have lost my part time job in the recent months.

I have seen some people go to AFCA to get the resolution and so I decided to go to AFCA. Please suggest whats the best way forward

Update: AFCA has resolved my issue and I recommend anyone go to AFCA in Australia for a quick resolution

  • Call them 1800 073 263

    • Their call centre is completely closed due to COVID-19 and has been for the past few months now - ridiculous if you ask me.

Hey OP, if I was you I would have gone to AFCA already. PayPal have messed you round over a rather significant amount and in many cases, once you lodge a complaint against PayPal, they will keep your account limited but allow you to withdraw the money without waiting the 6 month period.

I've had a whole debacle with PayPal previously, so here are some emails to their IDR (internal dispute resolution team):

    [email protected]
    [email protected]

But firstly I would suggest lodging an AFCA complaint here, this will give PayPal a set and strict time limit to respond.

Also OP, if you are finding it tough given you've lost your job, send me a PM and I'll send you some funds (not through PayPal of course!)

Thanks for the help and your generous offer. But I am determined to make it out of this on my own and I want to fight it out with Paypal to get my money back. That was the money from selling my macbook on ebay in August 2019 and they blocked my money for no ethical reason. The only respnse I keep getting from the executive escalations is this
      1. We are registered financial company so we have to verify your account
      2. Please send documents to us to lift the limitation

However my only request is to close my account and give my money back. I havent asked them to lift the limitation but to terminate my services. Which they do not respond to at all

I am in an infinite loop with my money locked away!!!

Wow. So nearly a year ago. And they're earning interest on YOUR money. Classic PayPal.

The only respnse I keep getting from the executive escalations is…

Get AFCA involved, and I guarantee you they will stop giving you the run around.

I am in an infinite loop with my money locked away!!!

Again, once you get AFCA involved, this will most definitely change. Once PayPal allow you to withdraw the funds after lodging the AFCA dispute, I would also be raising the possibility of them paying you interest they would've earnt or similar, as this has been going on for you for nearly a year now..

        Keep us updated OP!

  • Sorry to hear about your problems. AFCA is a good way to go.

Also look around on Whirlpool forums. PayPal have a long history of being b4stards.

  • is over 1900$

It isn't usually for Paypal to hold funds for suspicious high-value transactions. Do you have a trading history with eBay?

    • Yes I have an eBay account for a long time. However suspicious a transaction is there has to be a way out to get my money. They can either terminate my services and refund the money back to my verified bank account or use the documents I provided to enable my account. They cant verify my documents and so they wont give my money back. So there has to be some resolution other than Paypal keeping my money idefinitely

  • PayPal earning from your money by investing, get some profit off them too.
