Hisense 50" TV or Sony 50" TV

Looking for a new 50 inch TV. These two both in my price range. Ive heard the new S8 Series is great but I know you can't go too wrong with Sony. Thoughts?

  • Sony every day of the week unless you're on a budget.

Sony warranty is 1 year. Hisense is 3 year.

      • yes get an inferior product because of the 3 year warranty.

        • I normally go Sony - The 32" that's starting to have trouble is around 10 years old, 46" is around 7 years old and going strong. 55" is only 2 year old.
While I don't expect that from every Sony (anything can have problems), any cheap TV I've purchased has only lasted about 3 years. The Samsungs I used at work are crappy after around 2 years - admittedly they were not the top end Samsungs, but still I'm not keen on Samsung quality.

I have seen S8 and it’s great display. I will suggest visit a store and look for yourself before you buy.

Would it really be so different to the TCL 50P8M for $495 or less? Sorry if this is a noob question.

    • You know what they say "buy cheap, buy twice" in this case "buy cheap, get two!"

It has a 3 year warranty.

Looks like you also get $80 store credit right now, which makes it effectively $415!

I bought one for my folks and it seems really excellent. Read the reviews of it.

People generally don't review a TV after they've had it a couple of years, they do it within 6 months of purchase. Almost all TVs will still be going strong then. There's no telling how long those customers have been happy with it after the review.

I certainly don't expect a TCL/Hisence/Kogan to last as long as an LG/Panasonic/Sony.

  • Haven't seen these screens in action but I think the sony is a quantum dot. Also sony generally have good post processing so if your using it for tv you may get better results.
