What PC Games Do You Recommend to Play Today?

Hi all, seeking Ozbargainers advice on which games I should get into? Used to super into PC gaming and have recently purchased a gaming laptop (Dell g5, 16gb ram, i7-9750, GeForce RTX 2070)

Previously used to play COD, CS, Quake 1 - 3, Need for Speed, GTA 1-3 before moving onto ps3 and ps4 gaming but now back on the PC bandwagon.

So far have played Doom (2016), Forza Horizon 4, Portal 2, Metro Exodus, Gears 5.

Really want something engaging, either single player decent story or co-op. Open to any genre except RPG (just feel uplevelling and securing items too much of a repetitive grind).

Not big into online multiplayer games (as I get my ass handed to me too much haha).

Happy to pay for decent titles, as would rather use time playing AAA titles and make use of the hardware!

Thanks

Have you managed to add any of the free games that have come up lately?
You want a decent story but don’t want rpg? This doesn’t make sense to me as most games with a good story are rpg

    • Haha there's something about RPGs that doesn't appeal to me. Maybe due to all the hours I sunk into Morrowind back in the day. I recently started playing Outer Worlds and it just felt like the same old repetitive grind (hopefully not offending people here, just not overly attracted to this genre). However if there is one you think will sway me happy to be proven wrong!

I like Borderlands handsome Jack. Recently free on epic, but I bought it for a few bucks as part of a bundle.

In addition to everyone else's suggestions, I also discover games by browsing steam and using their tagging system.

Minecraft Dungeons is good fun. its a bit like a Diablo remake.. Its not Minecraft, just set in the Minecraft universe

Witcher 3. It's gorgeous with great gameplay. Your aversion to RPGs will change.

    • Thanks! I have seen this on every list of PC games so I think you've just convinced me

    Quake.

As silly as it sounds, and I’ll get jumped on for it, Destiny 2. If you get the free version, for new players, there is quite a bit of content.

Whatever comes up free on epic games

  • Good old Crysis

Chess. Start with learning basic endgames, then get into some basic middlegame tactics. There are plenty of youtube videos, structured lessons, and more books than all other games/sports combined. Based on your experience with that, you can pursue the challenge with other players online at any time of the day at all skill levels. Unlike traditional computer games that only have a popularity of a few years, chess will last your whole life so the skills you learn will never go to waste. You also don't need fancy hardware to enjoy the game.

    • i never get to the endgame…

  • Wonder Boy

  • minecraft

  • Deep Rock Galactic, you wont regret it

  • Space invaders, pacman, pong, logo. These should keep you busy for a while.

I guess it depends on what you are finding fun these days.
I love the survival/crafting/production genre so Subnautica, factorio, satisfactory, space engineers, autonauts, banished
Maybe VR fitness? Beat sabre, BoxVR, Creed, Knockout League, thrill of the fight
Tower defense games? Plants vs zombies, Defense Grid, evil genius if you like designing traps :)
Story heavy - maybe the mass effect series? Dreamfall+Longest Journey?
    4X - Endless space 2, homeworld remastered
General casual (puzzle) Lyne, circuits, space chem, cogs, world of goo, plague inc

Anyway, a few more for your list, some a bit off the beaten path :)
