Cheap VW map updates

Hey all, does anyone have a reliable source for 2020 VW nav updates that is cheap? I don't care about them enough to spend the money VW wants, but will update them if it's a reasonable price.

Have found "navigation systems Australia", who's website looks like it was made in 1998, however they have the 2020 maps listed for $100.

There's a current thread as well as a link to a download site on Whingepool that might help.

    • Thanks mate, I'll have a look.

  • If you get to http://www.navigationau.com/ then it is a scam site. They only take EFT…

    See https://www.smartcompany.com.au/business-advice/legal/gps-we…

    • Yeah hadn't been that far into it, but the website screams scam!

Can’t you download map updates yourself here: https://webspecial.volkswagen.de/vwinfotainment/int/en/index… ?

    And it’s free!

Anyone on-selling these is scamming you. VW provide free map updates. Dealers are scamming you too but sell official sd-cards with map updates.

    • That seems like a us site, and the free map updater be Australia had for a short period is no longer available for some reason.

      • Which car? I see it for a Golf.

Btw de stand for Deutsch. It’s the official German site and it’s for international use.

        • I know what de stands for. They list us model cars, as well as Europe only stuff. Passat and Touareg. If I select Touareg it only has 2018-. For Passat it has my year model, but not the nav unit.

Had a chance to have a bit more of a look, and it seems like VW stopped offering free maps for Australia well over a year ago for some reason.

Edit - on even further investigation, it appears this is because I have RNS units, not the "discover" or "discover pro" units that come with free maps.

          • @brendanm: Right. Thanks, that makes sense. I’m buying a mk7.5 golf so hopefully I’ll be able to update the maps on the Discover Media unit it comes with. We always seem to be about a year behind the Euro models. That said with Apple connect it doesn’t matter much.

Good luck finding updates maps for your unit.

            • @Lavec: Yeah if you have the discover unit it seems you may have a lot more luck. Phone maps are generally just easier to use all round really, so if you have apple play you'll probably never use the inbuilt nav.

Might just get the android auto adaptor for the treg, have to do a bit more research on that one.

  • Better to buy a Navman for $100 with LifeTime maps updates.
Or you can get 2-3 year old ones for about $40.
Just look for the "LM" suffix in the model number (Lifetime Maps.
Alternatively maps for Mobile Phone Navigation are free with many apps Nav Apps including Google maps which are probably the most up-to-date maps out there.

Many rave about WAZE which gives great taffic updates too
