Need a Way of Getting Gumtree Package Delivered without Seller Knowing My Address

Hi All,

Buying something from Gumtree (skip all the Gumtree warnings its of extremely low value but its a hasstle to deliver)

I don't have access to a vehicle and I am currently quarantined away from my place.

I need to get someone to deliver the package to an address that I don't want the seller to know.

If I use an Uber the seller will know where the Uber is sending the package.

Any ideas?

Parcel Locker/Parcel Collect address should be fine

    Air tasker ?
Where is it going from and to?

  • You could order the Uber on your phone, monitor the trip live, set an initial dummy address that is in the right direction, then once the trip is started change the address

I don't get it, why would you even need to change the address? How will seller know where Uber goes unless he follows it or puts a GPS tracker in the package?

Why dont you want the person selling it to know your address?

Yes, it took ~20 minutes before anyone asked, but we all need to know

Intending to dispute payment and rip off the seller

easy….get it delivered to your neighbours house then steal it from their front door step

      Definitely not kinda dodgy 😂

If they're personally delivering it, get them to meet you down the street?

If they're sending it by post, get a parcel locker (NOT PO BOX!) from AusPost. They're free.

  • Do you have a trusted friend you could ask to receive the package at their place, then they could drop it at your house.

Uber also has a package service. You could order the Uber then enter the drop off address. Seller won’t know then?

  • ParcelPoint or Parcel Locker from Auspost

    • Will the seller then know my full name?

What the frig. Why are you so paranoid?

But what about the delivery driver? They will know your address AND name!!

@bigballerbrand: If you wanted to make this all sound shady as @%#$, contragulations, you have succeeded.

@bigballerbrand: If you want a proper answer then you’ll give us your why so we can get the correct context

      • From experience with parcel lockers, they only need your first name and at least the first initial of your last name.
E.g. if your name is John Smith, you are able to put "John S" in the name field

Just make sure it's the same as your AusPost account name

    Huh?

This sounds quite nefarious and juicy

    Cocaine or meth?

Pay bikies to pick it up, added bonus they can break the seller's legs if they're a scammer.

You got to be kidding right? Here’s a tip, don’t bother buying whatever it is you are buying.

If I am sellin something and posting it I want to know the person on the other end is legit. If the buyer is going to act all shady there won’t be a sale.

So what if they know your address. If the transaction is completed in good faith you will be forgotten quickly.

If it's of extremely low value, why bother going to all this trouble? I've bought multiple items on Gumtree posted to my house with no issues at all. Either you're being waaaaaay too paranoid about this, or something dodgy will be going on…
