Projector away from wall

Hi, i'm designing a layout of a classroom and the client is going to purchase a ceiling projector at a later date. They have asked what would be the best placement for the ceiling projector (for a middle of the range projector) away from the wall to receive the projection? Can anyone assist?

  • Eh? You'd place it at a distance far enough from the wall so it creates an image the size desired.

    • Is there a general distance? (for outlet placement)

Entirely depends on the model of the projector. You have to take into account how bright and the resolution that the projector can output.

Probably up on the ceiling, pointed at the wall

It depends on the projector. Things that you may want to consider are:-

    • projector's minimum screen distance (this BenQ model has minimum screen distance of 779mm while this model has 941mm

    • projected screen size required (throw ratio). Check the model's specifications, it should have the throw ratio. Use this online calculator 1 and online calculator 2 to get an idea of the ideal distance.

    • Thanks :) Assuming it doesn't need to be spot on as the client wants to purchase one at a later date? As above, just for outlet placement

      • Doesn't need to be spot on, it's just for you to get a feel of the distance and throw ratio of models in the market.

I have a bog standard Epson in our meeting rooms at work, and they're about 3.5m away from the wall. That gives (i think) around 2.4m wide image

    Roughly
