What Kind of Boards Can Protect The Wood Wall against Gas Stove

hi guys,
we just installed a gas stove in our kitchen.

My gas fitter told me the wall above the stove needs something to avoid the heat. he recommended tiles which is thick enough.

but Im not handy to do the tiles and not really like the style. Im thinking the splashboard which is widely available in bunnings.

any suggestions or recommendations will be much appreciated.

Tiles because ceramic. Ceramic good for heat insulation.

Splashback for DIY from Bunnings most likely aluminium. Aluminium bad for heat insulation.

  • Stainless steel if you don't like tiles/glass. Anything except wood or paper :P

    • there is a 'glass splashback' in the bunnings. is it same with tiles/glass?

      • Do you have a photo of the clearance between the splashback area and where your cooktop has been installed?

You can't heat the splashback with the cooktop, that's obvious (I hope :) )

    • Not stainless steel. It will conduct the heat quickly. It is possible the SS might dissipate the heat across itself widely enough not to cause a problem, but will not really protect the timber wall from heat.

    Fibro sheet probably

  • OP - make sure with whatever you put there, that it's designed for heat. Also with 'glass', you can't put regular window glass there as it will explode with heat. Make sure it's tempered glass.

    • How far from a window can the stove be? We're putting a mini kichen in the garage next to the window so wanted to make sure its still safe.
