Stick/Robot Vacuum Recommendations

I'm looking for recommendations for a budget vacuuming solution for my situation:

70sqm flat
Hardwood floors, tiled bathroom
1 rug at entrance and 1 in living area, both short pile
Heavy shedding dog (corgi)

Currently tossing up between what seems to be ozbargains favourites:

Xiaomi Dreame v9 ~$230-300
Xiaomi gen 1 robot vacuum ~$380

What I need advice on are:

Since I have mostly hardwood and tile, does the vacuum need to be super high powered?
Stick vs robot. Is a robot vacuum able to fully replace a stick vacuum? Or will I need to purchase a stick anyway to do upholstery/corners?
Are there more budget efficient options/other recommendations than the two listed above?

EDIT:
Thanks for all the help guys. You all seem to agree on recommending the Dreame v9 so I'll be grabbinge one off the current sale.

I have a LG Roboking robot vacuum and the Xiamo Dreame v9. I live in a 80sqm apartment with hardwood floors, rugs, and carpets in the bedrooms.
Maybe this is specific to my model of robot vacuum but i find it pretty useless on carpets, and it struggles to get on top of the rugs. The dust compartment is also quite small and fills up really quickly.
We recently adopted a cat who sheds a lot of hair so decided to invest in the Xiaomi Dreame. It's brilliant for collecting cat hair and polishing our floors, but sadly has meant we no longer use the Roboking. It's just sitting in the corner gathering dust :(
Last point I have is that I would definitely recommend getting the added Xiaomi carpet head for your rugs / carpets. It would be useless on those without it.

Got both….. if I had to pick one, I'd go for the dreame with the carpet head. Did my carpets after the robot had done them…. picked up loads that the robot missed… Also more versatile

We have both Xiaomi Dreame v9 and Xiaomi gen 1 robot vacuum.

We let the robot go around cleaning every 2 - 3 days (when we're not home), and use the Dreame for hard to access corners as well as when we accidentally make a mess

"Stick vs robot. Is a robot vacuum able to fully replace a stick vacuum? Or will I need to purchase a stick anyway to do upholstery/corners?"

No, I find that the robot cannot fully replace the stick. I find the Stick way more useful as you'll find that the robot can do the general areas but definitely there will be some corners where it is just impossible for it to reach. I find the suction power on the stick much stronger as well. The robot is good as it can do the cleaning while we're out and does an okay job with picking up hairs and dust on high traffic areas.

If I had to choose only one, I would go with the Dreame 9.

I should probably answer the other two questions as well.

"Since I have mostly hardwood and tile, does the vacuum need to be super high powered?"
Our unit has the same kind of flooring, and we rarely use the highest power (there are 3 levels). Generally stick to Level 1 and 2 and that does most of the job.

"Are there more budget efficient options/other recommendations than the two listed above?"
The Dreame 9 is often compared to a Dyson v8/v10 so I don't think you'll find an equally good alternative for that price point. That being said, I've never used a Dyson personally so I cannot draw comparisons myself. Before the Dreame 9, we had a corded Kmart vacuum and after moving to cordless would never go back to corded

There's a reason that the two you mentioned are OzB favourites I guess… in terms of bang for buck I think it's difficult to find other alternatives (for that price) that would match their performance

  • I have got both robo gen 1 and also bought dreame a month ago. While we use dreame for majority of times, we still use robo for bedrooms. Having said that, i would suggest you go for Dreame and only get robo if you still want it. You may not even buy/need the robo.
