Fast charging standards. Is it charger or device dependent or both?

There's so many charging standards that it's all becoming confusing.

I've got a Xiaomi Mi10 which I think uses QC4.0.

To get QC4.0 rates, do I need a "smart charger" which conforms to QC4.0 specifics, or can I use any charger so long as it outputs the amount required by the phone?

I've seen some 40+ watt charges which don't state QC. I wonder if these would be compatible with QC4.

Curious if only the phone requires the smarts for QC or if both the phone and charger need it.

Thanks

Please just buy the original charger to avoid any hassle.

Generally you will need a charger that says it supports the same charging standard used. It's best to use a charger that states it supports QC4/QC4+. QC4+ is backwards compatible with USB-PD so a charger with that standard should work.

Google have made it a requirement in Android to support USB-PD now so future phones are likely to have that and the various proprietary standards.
